Sewing Honors Won By Local Entrants

Rittman Federated Women's Clubs dominated the Le gislation Day Vogue Sewing Contest held Tuesday at Mt. Vernon. Winners include Joan Miller of Doylestown first, Mary Jane House of Rittman second, and Carol Geiser of Smithville third representing Rittman clubs. Eighteen women from four Rittman clubs attended a luncheon at the Church of Christ with talks on mental health and education. Jean Miller of Doylestown will compete for the state title in Cleveland in May.

Library Extends Hours at Rittman Public Library

Librarian Mrs Kathleen H Hilliard announces a trial schedule adding over 10 hours weekly. The library will be open 3 to 8 30 p.m. Monday through Friday with no dinner hour closing, and Saturday hours 12 noon to 5 p.m. The change goes into effect Monday.

Route 94 collision injures Rittman teen

Edna Grossenbacher 17 of Rittman RD 18 sustained a slight ankle injury in a Friday evening crash at Route 94 and Ohio 5. She rode with William Hatfield 20 of Rittman when his auto was struck by a car driven by Ralph Wilhelm of Orrville. Wilhelm's vehicle northbound on Route 94 failed to yield. Damage to Wilhelm car was moderate. Wilhelm cited for failure to yield rights of way.

Council To Ride Herd On Sewage Plant Contractor

City council clashed with Pacific Builders over a $270000 sewage plant project. A two month extension was requested as 95 percent of work is done, while a $945 monthly inspector fee drew opposition. Weather and subcontractor issues cited. bar screen supply promised for April 9. Manh said 30 days enough for continuation. inspector fee questioned. Mann to meet builders to curb extra costs.

Want More Land West Of The City

City council discusses annexing land west of the corporation limits near Sterling Avenue after noting new homes outside the city are tapping into Rittman water lines. Officials said the issue was discussed years ago and should be stopped, but four homes under construction cannot be changed. A councilman suggested annexation as the best solution if residents want city services, though only a fire plug could be offered. Residents will be polled soon to determine if they want city incorporation.

Rittman Spelling Bee reps to contest in Orrville

Karen McComas eighth grade First Street School and Carolyn Jensen sixth grade West Hill School will represent Rittman at the Wayne County Spelling Contest on Saturday April 14 in Orrville. Principal Myron Steiner and regional representatives organize. Karen seeks county champ, sponsor Miss Mildred Durie guides her. Carolyn makes her first attempt with Mrs Irma Menegay as one of three judges. Contest starts at 7:30 PM at North School in Orrville.

Local business pays large license plate costs

Atlas Freight Lines spent 18185 50 for truck licenses in Rittman this year. Oco Transportation paid 7057 and Packaging Corporation 6600 for new plates. The fees yield 34 percent returned to Rittman for street repair by local government.

Overholt's Central America trip amid revolutions and earthquakes

The Overholts joined an Audubon Florida group traveling to Guatemala City and Costa Rica. They toured cities, villages, and ruins, meeting Americans including doctors and Look Magazine's editor. Costa Rica impressed with colorful flora, active caretaking, and a modern, educated society despite earthquakes and a lively civil scene.
