Rittman Indians rout Twinsburg then edge Canfield at Kent

Rittman High Indians defeated Twinsburg 32-26 in the Kent District Tournament quarterfinals and then lost to Canfield 42-28 in the bracket final. Wade Milford led Rittman with 15 on seven field goals and one free throw. Canfield guard Hendricks scored 14 in the late win.

Funeral services were held at Madisonburg Lutheran church for Mrs. Mary C. Herman 68 wife of Eli Herman. The Rev R F Gronewald officiated and burial followed at Madisonburg. Surviving are her husband three sisters one brother and three stepchildren from Wooster and Creston.

High School Band Plans March 28 Concert

The 50 member Fittman High School Band will present a spring concert in the high school auditorium on Friday March 28 with Jack W Broucek director of the University of Connecticut Band as guest conductor. Broucek a Baldwin Wallace graduate and noted musician will lead a varied program including a xylophone solo by Miss Leif Espenchild at intermission. Tickets go on sale this week.

Education Board Plans Salary Schedule Study

The board opened Monday night at the high school with routine business. Bills were approved. Superintendent Garver reported on salary schedule practices in Ohio schools, and a salary schedule committee will meet in April to report on Rittman teachers. The board authorized lab equipment repairs, a sewing machine for Home Economics, transportation for the band to Kent on March 21, and a compact computer purchase study for the commercial room. Nearly all recent library books arrived, and a filing system for work certificates was approved.

Creston Farmer Dies by Own Hand Wednesday

Rich took his own life by shooting himself at his Creston home Wednesday morning. Coroner Adrian J Hartzler ruled death a suicide. He leaves a large family including wife, seven daughters and two sons, and siblings. Funeral set for 2 p.m. Friday at Sterling United Brethren Church with burial in Seville Cemetery.

The Wooster College Girls Chorus presented a 90 minute secular program to a full auditorium Sunday afternoon at the Presbyterian Church. Frigidaire Range Gift To McWilliams At Cooking School

Mrs Gerald McWilliams of 578 State Street won a Frigidaire electric range as the grand award at a two day cooking school in Rittman High School auditorium. Attendance reached 400 on Friday, surpassing February's one day record. 750 attended Thursday and 950 total over two days. Miss Margaret Buchan led demonstrations with printed recipes distributed, and several merchants sponsored the event with door prizes and groceries.
