Rittman To Meet Twinsburg In Kent District Tourney

Rittman High Indians earned a Kent District appearance by defeating Savannah 52-35 in the Ashland Sectional. Drawings for the Class B district in Kent place Rittman against Twinsburg at 8 30 p m Thursday night as the third game of four. The club hosts a garden meeting Friday night at 8 at the home of Squibbs.

Kent Tournament Slate For Class B Teams

Kent tournament slate lists Class B games on Thursday with matchups including Chagrin Falls versus Clearview at 6 30 p m Loudonville against Eaton at 5 30 p m Rittman versus Twinsburg at 8 30 p m and Mayfield against Canfield at 3 0 p m.

Indians Surge Ahead as Wade Milford Spurs Lead

Early in the second quarter Savannah trimmed a 23-4 deficit to 23-19 before the Indians rebuilt the margin. The third quarter saw Savannah press then fade as the Indians surged with a late scoring burst to 35-28. Weaver led Savannah with fast break baskets while Wade Milford fueled the fourth quarter flurry to widen the Indian lead.

Auto Crash Fatality in Summit County in 1941

Clarence Martin aged 38 of Wadsworth and a former Rittman resident died at Citizens Hospital Barberton from injuries suffered in an auto wreck near Norton Center last Wednesday night. It marks Summit county's 14th traffic fatality for 1941.

Church Groups Sought for Red Cross Sewing Aid

Mrs. Ivan King and Mrs. W W Bodager contact Rittman church groups to assist Red Cross sewing. Wool supplies are ample and skirts are to be completed before summer, with much help needed to finish the garments.

Band To Enter District Contest At Kent

The 50 member Rittman High School Band directed by Jack N Coy will travel to Kent to participate in the Northeastern District Band Contest on Friday March 21. They will perform Brigadier General March The Scarlet Dragon Overture and Horizon Overture as the required class C district piece.

Council hears committee reports and sets gas rate meeting

The council in regular session heard committee reports and adjourned until Wednesday for a special meeting to act on a new gas rate proposed by Ohio Fuel Gas Co for Rittman. Action is required before March 13 to file the rate with the Public Utilities Commission. Charles Wald explained the discussion to N Senecast representatives.

No Gas Rate Revision by Rittman Council

The Rittman council approved keeping the current gas rate for two years at an adjourned meeting on Wednesday. The proposed higher rate will not take effect until 1943 and will remain the Rittman rate through 1945.

The Public Utilities Commission regulation sets gas free allotment at 100 feet per user with 70c per additional foot and refunds for five years if user targets are met. The 54 member Girls Chorus of Wooster College under Eve Roine Richmond will perform at 4 29 p m Sunday March 16 at the Presbyterian Church in Rittman with violinist Ruth Ihrig and soloist Howard Shaw. Rittman Student Plays With Ashland College Guard

James Poe, a five foot seven and a half inch guard from Rittman, is noted as the smallest member of Ashland College basketball. He won his letter as a sophomore and is expected to see more action in the upcoming season after three years on the high school varsity squad.

Doylestown Cooking School Set for March 19

Miss Margaret Buchan a home economist from Spry Research Kitchen Cambridge Mass conducts a one session cooking school in cooperation with Dannemiller Radio and Electric Store at Doylestown High School Auditorium on Wednesday evening March 19 at 730 pm. There is no admission charge and women of Doylestown and nearby are invited to attend. Prizes include a Westinghouse Electric Range valued at 121.50 and 10 grocery bags. a Q and A session follows the demonstration.

Draft Board 2 to Supply 172 Men for Induction

Wayne County Draft Board No 2 will supply an estimated 172 men for induction into army service under the Selective Service Act by June 30. Governor Bricker set the quota at 311 with 139 credited, leaving 172 to be inducted. Fifty six men have already been inducted.

Rittman Press Cooking School Set This Afternoon

The two day Rittman Press cooking school, by Unis Paper and local merchants, opens at 1 45 this afternoon in the high school auditorium. Admission is free with open seating. Miss Margaret Buchan will lead recipes and live demonstrations plus prizes including a $129.76 Frigidare electric range.

Rittman Entrants Win Legion Essay Contest Honors

Catherine Twinem of Rittman High School led Wayne County in the Community American Legion Essay Contest on Lincoln and the Constitution. Eight county winners include Nancy McGuff Creston Howard Shriver Shreve Evelyn Beck Orrville Gerald White Shreve Kathri Shriver Shreve Leroy Haley Creston Eugene Junkin Shreve.
