Rotarians Enjoy Big Night In Rittman Community Event

The first major social since the Rittman Rotary Club’s founding hosted Orrville Rotarians and Rotary Anns from Orrville and Rittman. 131 guests dined at the Presbyterian church basement, with Vernon Fredrick tagging guests at the door and a green and white décor. The dinner featured a three course menu, live music from the high school orchestra, and Rotary songs. Akron Mayor Rybolt delivered a well received speech on Rotary aims, joined by Dr Irwin and Rev Oswald of Orrville.

Birthday party honors 90th for Mrs Catherine Caskey

Mr and Mrs H L Steele and Mr and Mrs Leonard Weinsheimer visited Wooster Sunday to attend a reunion at the home of Mrs Catherine Caskey 555 North Grant street celebrating her 90th birthday. Forty four descendants attended a bountiful dinner and gifts were given to the honoree. Lester Steele of Akron is a great great grandchild and a grandson.

Rittman Receives 2000 Share From License Tags

Rittman’s treasury grows by 151,581 dollars from 1926 automobile license tag sales. The Auditor Keller check funds the maintenance and repair of roads and can be reallocated for other purposes. The allocation is among Wayne county municipalities including Wooster and Orrville, with larger distributions planned.

Village Council Passes Paving, Donations, and Hills

The village council met with mayor, clerk, and solicitor. An ordinance authorized paving Sterling Avenue to the corporate limits. A resolution donated 20 to aid legal expenses for widening Big and Little Chippewa creeks. Hills approved totaled 700. Boundary extension communication tabled.

St Patrick Party Held for Local Schools

The Main street building teachers hosted a St Patrick party for the first and high school buildings on Wednesday evening. Green and white decorations appeared and small green favors were given. A luncheon of chicken sandwiches pickles olives ice cream cake and coffee was served.

The Rittman High School boys and girls prepare to play alumni teams this Friday night. Both squads have trained with the high school teams and expect a tough game. Admission is free for children and under school age, with others paying 35 cents. Games start at 7 30.

Annually recalled is the March 11 1870 explosion at a saw mill near Mt. Lance site that killed seven men including John Fritz Jacob Knapp and Dave Shook. George Fritz notes the gloomy day as carpenters sheltered in a fir mill during rain. few residents remain in Rittman years later, but the event lingers in memory.
