Rittman High Band Plans Spring Concert Friday Night

Rittman High School will host a spring concert Friday March 22 at 8 p m in the high school auditorium. Soloists Tom Miller on piano performing Rhapsody in Blue and Gault Aurand with a sousaphone piece Beelzebub will be accompanied by the band. Tickets available from band members or at the school per director Donna Jeanne Gault.

County C. E. Leaders Plan Rittman Meetings

Wayne County Christian Endeavor Directorate met at Wooster First Church of God on Sunday March 10. Ten members two visitors and one ministerial adviser attended. Rittman U B church invited Madisonburg Service Team to conduct their C E service next Sunday. Paula Hemple outlined plans for the Spring Convention at Rittman Presbyterian Church on April 28. Youth program to end. girls wrap up season this night

The youth recreation program will end next Monday with a 4 30 meeting for boys age over 10. The girls program closes tonight under Mrs Kindig. Reports say winter indoor play proved highly successful for 10 plus youths and the spring softball program will be announced soon.

Rotary program highlights Red Cross work and future events

Mrs. Avery Kinch spoke to the Rotary club praising the Red Cross and reading war letters from Denmark and Holland. The club plans a program by high school boy quartet and band soloists under Miss Donna Jeanne Gault. An election named A J Grant and Hermann Robinett as directors. A board meeting will set officers for the new year starting July 1. A child born to Mrs Karl Kohler died shortly after birth in Akron hospital last week.

Visitors swarm for rare Sacred Lily of India bloom

Mrs. Fred Burger hosted a parade of visitors at S Main Street to view a five foot Sacred Lily of India, the first bloom in six years, a plant that needs no soil nourishment. A three year old girl on the hill responded to a compliment about her outfit with a bold remark about wearing lipstick and staying out all night.

Fatal boiler explosion at Knupp & Fritz site kills seven

Seventy six years ago on March 11 a boiler blast at the Knupp and Fritz sawal plant on the site of the Bert Gordon Garage killed seven men. Jacob Knupp a Milton Township treasurer died with $325 in his pocket meant to pay township debts. At the time only one house stood in Rittman and another was under construction.

Steiner herd tops February Dairy Herd Improvement standings

The February high producing herd in Wayne County for the Dairy Herd Improvement Association is the registered Holstein herd of Ray C. Steiner in Sterling. The herd produced 1283 pounds of milk and 43.1 pounds butterfat on all 2x milking, with Harry W. Graber of Marshallville ranked second.

Ten Trailers Assigned for Veterans Housing in Rittman

Ten temporary housing trailers were allotted Wednesday to the City of Rittman for married veterans. The project, arranged by Region VIII HUD official Charles Bie Jr and confirmed by Congressman Thom, will feature a central laundry and toilet unit. The American Legion Post will consider the plan after village discussions and a veterans survey of 45 names on Willow Brook’s waiting list.
