Final report in the Rittman Heart Fund Drive shows $677 raised, according to local chairman Mrs. Frank Burns. This amount is $137 more than last year, and does not include contributions sent directly to county headquarters by industries.
Frank Skraba was captured in Detroit after a late night FBI tip. He admitted exchanging gunfire with Mogadore Police and was unarmed when taken to a federal judge for bond set at $10,000. Extradition to Ohio is sought while other suspects in multiple robberies remain under investigation.
Chippewa Watershed officials travel to New Philadelphia to seek court approval to form a sub district of the Muskingum Conservancy District. Approval would give legal status for flood control and soil conservation and unlock federal aid. The USDA has tentatively promised 1.72 million toward nine dams, with total project cost near 2.8 million. Wayne County Commissioners were briefed by a watershed committee including Orrstetter, Maibach, Burnett, Gatehouse, Ramsier, Gresser, Cush, and Neuenschwander as construction plans were outlined potentially impacting bridges roads and ditches.
Assistant Village Clerk Mrs. Vivian Kunkler resigned after the Board of Public Affairs refused overtime for Saturdays. She argued the 3 percent salary raise in January implied overtime for meetings and Saturdays. The board split 2-1 against Saturday overtime, approving only biweekly meeting pay. Interviews for the vacancy will begin.
About 177 volunteers have pledged to donate at the March 23 Red Cross Bloodmobile visit. The American Legion Auxiliary handles recruitment and urges donors to cancel if unable to keep appointments. Walk-ins welcomed noon to 6 pm with transportation and babysitting help provided by local volunteers.
A 50th anniversary open house for Mr. and Mrs. Ira Baysinger of RD 1 Rittman takes place Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. in their Canal Fulton born home. The couple married March 17, 1910, and have two daughters Ruth and Hazel Sellers, plus a son Vance who died in 1937.

The Rittman School Board approved the coming year pay schedule adding experience increments while starting salaries stay the same. Beginning teachers with a bachelor’s earn 4000, with a master’s 4400, and with a doctorate 4800. those with two or three years of college earn 3200 and 3600 respectively.
A rear collision on Bridge on County Road 504 between Rittman and Sterling injured Dale Cecil 29 of Sterling as he waited for a passing car. Marilyn Class of Canton drove a panel truck that struck Cecil from behind causing heavy damage to both vehicles.
The annual PTA Minstrel Show headlines March 18 and 19 at the high school auditorium with Ada Davis directing. Part one stars Lymeng Gish Janet Milford Bob Semler and the Maple duo. part two features a large chorus and interloper Chuck McCoy. Tickets available from members Stepfields Wrights Pharmacy or the Rittman Press.
Burial services were held at Rittman Cemetery for Alexander McLean 46 of Terre Haute Indiana son of Dr and Mrs Donald T R McLean former pastor of the First Church of Christ in Rittman His services followed a Monday funeral in Terre Haute He is survived by two brothers Ralph of Springfield Illinois Davis of Granada Hills California one sister Mrs Iris Read of Kensington Ohio four nephews and two nieces
Albert Christian of Rittman arrested Monday in connection with a burglary at the Wayne Farm Bureau in Sterling. Valued stolen articles at $110. Christian pleaded innocent and was bound over to the Wayne County Grand Jury. Judge Howard King set bond at $1,000.
City judge O A Houglan handles a stream of violator cases with penalties. Notable fines include Dorothy Hiberling of Creston for intoxication at 25 dollars plus costs, James Wilson of Rittman for driving while intoxicated 104.50 and three days in jail, Arley Moyer of Rittman 105.50 and jail days suspended for health, and Robert James Hookway of Creston 105.50 and three days in jail.
