Large Ohio armed robbery spree foiled. arrests made

Police from four agencies stopped a major Ohio robbery wave and arrested three Rittman men. Warrants were issued for two former Rittman men and a Wadsworth man. Victims’ losses totaled across multiple stores including Creston Sales Barn, Lawson stores, Wellington Market, Hostettler Market, Loyal Oak, Grafton Market, a Cleveland tavern, and East Greenville Variety Store. Suspects include Paul and Trent Boyes and Roy Boyes, with other arrests alongside Robert Orton John Watts.

Reckless driving fines issued in town accident case

Ernest Sollsberger, 35, of 214 South Main Street was fined 50 dollars plus costs with 30 dollars suspended after a reckless driving charge in Mayor John Baldwin's court. An accident on E Ohio Avenue sent his car into two new vehicles at Stricklands garage causing over 200 dollars in damage. Passenger Kathryn Wilson sustained minor injuries. Glenn Bartram also paid a 3 dollar fine for a traffic light violation.

Rittman School Board Faces Room Shortage for Fall

The Rittman Board of Education learned enrollment for grades one through eight next year will need 27 rooms, while only 25 are available. They may rent two external rooms or add two rooms within the existing building. The board approved April staff days off for AASA meeting attendees and renewed band instrument insurance. Bible distribution to middle grades will be limited to those who request them. A special session discussed science department needs for the current and proposed addition with department head Charles Kreider.

Rittman Junior High to Hold Twin Spelling Contests

Rittman Junior High will hold two spelling contests to pick a representative for the Akron Beacon Journal contest this spring. The written test is set for Tuesday March 15 and the oral spell-down for Tuesday March 22. Four medals await the top four winners. Grades 7 and 8 participate.

Navy Man Returns After Four Years Aboard The Navy

AO3 Merlin Dean Yoder was discharged Thursday February 17 in Jacksonville Florida after four years in the U S Navy He resumed duties in the printing department at Ohio Boxboard Co Yoder enlisted February 18 1951 trained at Great Lakes and served two years in Sanford Florida before a world cruise visiting 36 ports He graduated Rittman High School in 199 and worked for OBC prior to enlistment

Rotarians to Celebrate Golden Year Thursday in Smithville

PTA To Meet March 17 In Rittman High School

The Rittman Parent-Teachers Association schedules its next meeting for Thursday March 17 at 8 pm in the high school. Ralph Ely Wooster schools superintendent will moderate a panel on The Teacher Media of the PTA with teachers from Rittman Orrville and county schools. A high school chorus quartet will sing and refreshments are by the Room Mothers Committee led by Mrs Ed Taylor.

BG's Take 11th Straight For Perfect Season

The Rittman BGs, an undefeated grade school basketball team, beat Cres ton 31 25 to stretch their season record to 11 straight wins. Coached by Gerald Grant and Wilfred Blatter the squad built a 17 11 halftime lead and held on for victory.

Red Cross Drive Reaches 835.71 in Rittman 1955

The 1955 Rittman Red Cross campaign reports $835.77 raised from house to house canvassing with a $1,400 goal. Chairmen are Mrs Bodager Mrs Glassner Mrs Kitts and Mrs Rush. Bloodmobile Visit Planned for March 15 in Rittman

Final plans are announced for the Red Cross Bloodmobile visit on March 15 in Rittman. Transportation for donors and volunteers will be available, with a list of committee chairs handling recruiting scheduling hostesses and nursing volunteers. A Doylestown American Legion Auxiliary will serve the luncheon and the town’s Pauline Vessner will handle typing.

Local children may receive polio shots in spring

The Wayne County Health Department told the Rittman Board of Education last week that some local first and second graders in the Rittman Schools may be vaccinated against polio in the spring. Details of the mass inoculation will be announced later.
