In Ashland Rittman’s season ended with a 29 27 overtime loss to Smithville after a tight defensive battle. Peterman and Wenger led scoring early but free throws doomed Rittman as Shisler sealed Smithville’s win.
The Lions club plans a dinner for the basketball squad next Monday night at the Snyder Restaurant. The 3D club of girls schedules a hamburger try for the junior high team Saturday night March 17.
Loudonville captures the C B L division crown by beating Shreve and Smithville. In Kent district play, Geneva Spencer falls 54-33 to Loudonville. Shreve loses 43-36 to Cuyahoga Heights, and Ravenna trips Kent in Class A. Orrville and Wooster share the league title after three losses each. Loudonville leads in scoring with 12 5 season mark.
Wayne County Board No 2 re examined case histories to draft 34 additional registrants as 1-A eligible for future call. Names include Harlen Ramsier James Cormany Jr James McKelvey Walter Shoup and others with designations 1-AO 1-AQ while 34 others shift from 2-C farm deferments to 4-E conscientious objector status.
Mayor John Baldwin and Planning Commission member F O Kanehl announced at the Rotary luncheon that residents may submit public improvement suggestions for postwar development. Written or verbal ideas are welcome to the Commission, with members Baldwin Kanehl Rhonemus Overholt and Osborne named.
Nearly 350 pupils from seventh through high school and town adults received TB X-ray screening at the high school on Wednesday. The unit was provided by the county TB association from seal drive funds.
A wartime notice lists red and blue food stamps with applicable stamps and expiry dates. It notes sugar stamp 35 allows 5 pounds through June 2 and shoes stamps in Book 3 valid until further notice. Play begins tonight in Wooster Township gym for the county independent basketball tournament after Wednesday night drawing in Sterling. Bryce Browning secretary treasurer of the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District spoke at the Izank Walton League meeting in Wooster. He said the district controls flood waters, operates 14 reservoirs with 212800 acre feet of water, and aims to boost a 870000 dollar yearly recreational value for Ohio while valuing shoreline public access. The newly formed Planning Commission discussed post war improvements for Rittman and broad recreational development support.
Walter E. Roudabush son of Mr and Mrs L N Roudabush of East Ohio recently was elected assistant treasurer and controller of the Mayflower Mutual Insurance Co of Columbus. The firm acquired by new businessmen with former Governor John W Bricker as president. The company organized in 1937 has assets exceeding 275000 and surplus to policy holders over 100000. in 1944 it wrote 207000 in new premiums.
The DD.D.'s met on Washington's birthday for February at Georgene Friccius's home. They donated to the Red Cross, planned a ham burger fry for Rittman Junior High basketball players, and enjoyed games, refreshments, and knitting. Guest Norma Cabull and Margaret Grant from the 7th grade attended.
Charles Kerr of Guerne was the sole entrant in Wednesday’s civil service exam to fill the Wayne County Home Superintendent post. Willard M. Brenneman, longtime head, retires April 1 due to age limits. the courthouse test was conducted by Frank Cooper of the civil service department.
Raymond Hubacher, 28, of Sterling listed as missing in the line of duty January 29 in the Pacific area. Lt. Bud Poe broadcasts from the 10th Armored Division of General Patton's Third Army. he joins his family in relaying air bombing experiences. The Sterling High School newsletter recounts Pfc. Pat Patterson of Sterling who was lost and found after a Western Theatre maneuver incident and received a 30 day furlough in Florida. Johnny Ramsier of Sterling injured at Atta and sent from Washington to Iowa hospital then took a 15 day furlough with his father Joseph Ramsier in Congress and Sterling relatives before further treatment.
The high school annual Spring Band Concert is set for Friday April 6. Director Stanley Davis will give his final appearance of the year at that event.
The American Red Cross Blood Bank will return to Wadsworth on Wednesday March 1 from 7 to 5 45. Donors who gave in January can give again. cards must be returned by March 14. Appointments by calling Mrs J R West or Mrs Robert Schund.
Troop 410 met Thursday evening March at City Hall with 21 of 25 members in attendance. Ralph Overholt presented a slide lecture on Nature and the group recited the Scout oath and pledge. The Wall Patrol won the first point contest and earned a swimming trip March 7 at Akron Firestone Pool.

PFC. Matthew Mike Hubiak 26 son of Mr. and Mrs. Hubiak of 55 N State St reported by the War Department as seriously wounded in action in Manila on February 9. He has fought in every battle in which the 37th Buckeye division has engaged since his Jan 1941 induction. He trained in the Fiji Islands and attended Rittman schools before Army duty.

Ben Bauman purchases the P G Hessidence house and 28 acre farm on Sterling Road and will take possession April 1. Mr Hessidence sells personal belongings at public sale March 17.
A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Truax at Wadsworth Hospital this morning March 8. A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Fortner at their home on South Main Street on Saturday afternoon March 3.
Rain fell 0.90 inches from Tuesday 9 am to Wednesday 9 am, boosting March total to about 2.17 inches. March average is 3.43 inches. January and February had a 1.2 inch deficit.
