Red Cross Bloodmobile to Visit Rittman Next Month
The Red Cross Bloodmobile will visit Rittman on Thursday, April 11, at the American Legion Home from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The quota is 125 pints. Past visits in 1952 and 1953 set records and quotas, while 1956 saw two unsuccessful july attempts. 1957 schedules show two visits. Community volunteers from American Legion Auxiliary and Recruiting Committee organize donor drives in Rittman and neighboring towns including Doylestown, Creston, Sterling, and Rural.

The Windham Chipps upset Doylestown 56 to 55 in a district tournament game in Canton. Doylestown led 17-15 early and 32-32 at halftime before Windham pulled away 48-38 after three quarters and staged a late rally. Matson Matriarch Injured in Home Fall
Mrs Cathrine Matson aged 88 mother of Mrs John Petak of E Sunset Drive fell on the steps Monday morning and broke her hip. Mr and Mrs Russell were convicted of disturbing the peace and sentenced to drive mule and thru Rittman to Legion Hall. Roy Kramer charged with assault and battery fined 15 dollars and costs. Melvin Edincott and Jarvas Cowger fined 10 dollars and costs for fighting. James Glynn charged with intoxication and fined with costs. Blucher Collis fined 106 dollars and costs and placed in jail for three days for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
