Rittman Indians defeated Loudonville 47 to 42 in the Ashland sectional by closing the game with a 10-0 run. Benchoff led Rittman with 13 points and Sonny Schaub added 14 as Loudonville’s Tony Purcell topped scoring with 19 for the night. Next up, Rittman faces Doylestown-Chipps at 8 pm Saturday.

George A McBride aged 70 died Saturday after returning from a five week Florida vacation. He suffered a heart attack near County Road 504 while driving home with his wife. Born Shilo he lived at his address 30 years and worked 53 years for the Baltimore and Ohio railroad rising to general secretary treasurer of division 33 Order of Railroad Telegraphers.

Minor pool room owner placed on probation

Obituary: McBride Served Church Community in Wadsworth
Mr. McBride, member of the First Mennonite Church of Wadsworth, survived by his wife Zula a brother in law and sister in law Mr Russell Hart and their son Robert with whom the McBride family shared a double house and a number of cousins. Rev K J Neétien schwander officiated the burial in Crown Hill Cemetery south of Sterling.

Council hires Smith as part time engineer
The Rittman council appointed Larry Smith as part time city engineer to finish ongoing work while continuing as Words Worth city engineer. He will work in Rittman early mornings and evenings and be paid the standard engineering fee plus 3 per hour for miscellaneous tasks. A full time engineer has not yet been found. no responses were received to ads. The village and board of public affairs will cover engineer payments.

The 1957 Rittman Heart Fund drive was declared a success by chairmen as $605 was collected by church youth on Sunday afternoon. It was the first such drive in Rittman with canvassers visiting 487 homes and leaving white envelopes for residents to mail contributions to Heart Fund headquarters in Wooster. Gas leak sends two to hospital
Mr and Mrs Robert Orr of West Sunset Drive were rushed to Wadsworth General Hospital after a gas leak at their home. Orr suffered shock and bruises while Mrs Orr was reported as conscious after oxygen en route. Ohio Fuel Gas Co. found a slight leak at a furnace connection but family indicated fumes caused the condition.
