Liquor Ordinance Passed Grants Mayor Power to Destroy Seized Alcohol

The village council approved an ordinance under suspension to fine liquor violations 100 to 500 and let the mayor destroy liquor seized in raids. It repeals an older defective ordinance and directs fines to the village treasury. Tony Puccio seeks recovery of seized liquor but has no remedy yet.

Foreigners Leaving Rittman After War Time

In the last two weeks several foreign residents of Rittman have liquidated businesses and departed for Europe. Some plan to leave in the near future with more to follow in spring. They had substantial deposits in banks and postal savings. They return to rejoin families left behind when they came to America. The greater postwar freedom in Europe is drawing them home. Most had worked in local factories.

Memorial Service for Elmer Clippinger Honors War Hero

Memorial service held at Presbyterian church for Elmer Clippinger who died in France on October 22, 1918, at age 24. Soldier quartet performed, Rev Hermott gave the eulogy, and his life was recounted from early schooling in Ohio to Mt Hermon and Case School, his enlistment, service, and burial in The American Cemetery at Vichy, France. He left his mother Mrs Barbara Clippinger and brother G H Clippinger, with many friends.

Rev Herriott recalls resignation from Presbyterian church

Rev D Paul Herriott announced at a Sunday service that he would withdraw his resignation as pastor to the Presbyterian church after reconsidering following requests from congregants. He had presented his resignation to the congregation two weeks earlier.

Vandalism at Main St School Over Weekend

Several boys aged 1 4 years broke into the Main St school Saturday afternoon causing extensive damage. Desks torn, pencils snapped, papers scattered, a teacher’s drawer opened and 525 stolen for Red Cross relief. Some boys confessed, coins spent on candy and ice cream, cigars stolen from a restaurant, and acts tied to prior thefts. Juvenile court may handle cases in Wayne County.

Rittman High Defeats Lodi Teams in Two Games

Rittman girls won 18 to 1 over Lodi in a standout game on the home floor. The boys contest ended 25 to 11 before a storm caused a prolonged outage, leading to a forfeit by Lodi as the lighting failure halted play.

Bakery Changes Hands In Rittman Sale And Move

The Shemoary bakery in Rittman is sold to W C Lyon of Sebring who will operate starting Monday March 10. The shop closes this week to allow preparation for the opening day. Mr Shemory will sell his household goods at public sale this Saturday March 8 and plans to move to Pennsylvania next week.

Honor of Mr and Mrs Dun Ning DeFoe Wedding Tribute

Otterborn Gleaners members and Rev and Mrs DeFoe honored the bride Nora Baker at her home on Tuesday March 4 with music games and a clock and cut glass set gift. Guests included Dr and Mrs DeFoe Mr and Mrs Baker Mr and Mrs Dunning DeFoe plus numerous local residents.

Reception for Departing Presbyterian Members in Rittman

The congregation held a farewell reception in the church parlors for Mr and Mrs Bert Kelch and family and Mr and Mrs Mears and family who are leaving Rittman. A program of songs and recitations preceded lunch. The Kelchs sold their Rittman home and will move to Cleveland. the Meares sold theirs and move to Wadsworth where Mr Mears will work at Barberton.

Rittman Grange Program Sets March Event

The Rittman Grange plans a March 14 program with talks on planting fruit trees by Harvey Mills and local needs led by Clara Bodager. Mrs. Harvey Mills presents a paper on St Patrick's Day history, with current events by Wendall Long and readings by Wm Kanengeiser. A March 28 session features Fifteen minutes of fun led by Migsey Bessie Boyer Ikisa Thompson Clara Bodager and Gladys Milford, announced by Lecturer Elmer L Dulabahn.

Pythian Meeting and Banquet in Rittman and Sterling

A meeting of the Rittman K of P lodge drew about fifty members with twenty five Sterling K of P attendees. Four candidates received Knight rank two from Sterling and one from Rittman. The session ended with two hours of banqueting and social activity amid ample food and cheer.

PTA Meeting Set For School Auditorium March 12 1919

A Parent-Teacher Association meeting will be held in the school auditorium on Wednesday March 12 1919 at 7 30 pm. Reading of minutes from prior meeting and a sixth grade song followed by a paper on Public School Health by Miss Emma Blatter. Discussion to follow.
