Mrs Henry Jackson showed a historical document a pictorial history souvenir book about President Garfield published after his death in 1881. The note reflects on opportunities being sensitive and often missed on first visit.
About 50 women are volunteering their time to solicit for the Red Cross drive now underway.
Mrs. Everett Spicer of Rittman bound over to the grand jury after arrest Saturday night for carrying a straight edge razor. Bond set at 1000 dollars. Her husband Everett Spicer serves a six month sentence and 200 dollar fine for assault and battery in Rittman. Rodney Barber of Huntington Virginia arrested Saturday and held for Huntington police on grand larceny charges linked to a $250 theft. Radio information aided Barber’s arrest.
W. W. (Bill) Hilty formerly of Rittman Hardware purchases a Valley City general store nine miles northwest of Medina with an Akron partner. They assumed management this Monday and Hilty plans to move there soon. The store carries hardware and groceries.
Veterans began queuing at the J H Fisher Agency office after noon Monday to obtain Ohio bonus application forms. A Press photographer captured Lewis Schmidt assisting Dewey Morgan, both veterans with Pacific theater service, in the scene.
The Red Cross drive started in Rittman with solicitors visiting homes. Supplies are at the W. W. Bodager Agency for pickup and reporting. additional solicitors have joined since last week. Veterans and area residents may leave contributions with Clara Jenkins at the Bodager Agency. The Legion began distributing forms Monday evening to assist veterans and veterans forms indicate many eligible have taken their ranks.
Boyd Miller, president, announced that the National Honor Society of the high school will be the guests of the Lions Club on April 19. A Lions zone meeting is set for April 22 at Smithville Inn. Ladies night is scheduled for March 15. Veterans are visiting the Legion Home to secure bonus forms after the meeting.

Dalton High School defeated Chester 43 to 32 in the first tournament game on Ashland floor. Neil Milford led with 18 points as Dalton, coached by Hall, will face Rittman Friday at 7 p.m. after beating Perrysville and setting up a matchup with Dalton’s strong season.
Chamber of Commerce directors invite telephone subscribers to attend a council session next Monday to air complaints about service delays and lapses. The group also plans summer recreation, housing, farm sale, and community events while naming new committee members and planning a mid year dinner.

Rittman Papooses finished the season undefeated by beating Loudonville Junior High 33 22 in the final. Wallace and Taylor led with 10 points each for Rittman while Augenstein and Loudonville defender shared scoring honors. The win capped a 13 game, 428 point season with opponents totaling 219.
A daughter born to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Beery of Rittman Route 1 on March 1. A daughter born to Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Uhler of Rittman Route 1 on February 25. A daughter born to Mr. and Mrs. Orval Moser of 28 North State Street on March 2.
Lawrence Stoolmiller sold his IGA store on the square to Larry Pfaltzgraf of the Rittman Packing Co. this week. Leo Haley, formerly with the Rittman Provision, becomes the new manager. Stoolmiller has no immediate plans.
W P Mitchell of Salt Street died at 3 p m Wednesday Funeral arrangements are under Ebert Funeral Home with details not available at press time today.
