Car Wreck Near Marshallville Injures Sterling Man

Karl C. Musser, 28, of Sterling suffered a cut to the right ear when his car left County Road 27 and rolled into a ditch near Marshallville on Friday. He told the Sheriff’s Department he swerved to avoid an oncoming car, the vehicle tipped onto its side and the roof was damaged.

War Dead Honored in Rittman Parade and Services

Several hundred people gathered under cloudy skies to honor war dead. Rittman American Legion members Boy Scouts Gold Star parents Girl Scouts and Legion Auxiliary marched in a 10 30 a.m. parade. Cemetery services were canceled due to inclement weather. Howard Taylor 10th district Legion commander spoke at the high school James Watt gave the invocation and Fr Dennis Farr the benediction. The Legion honor guard visited seven area cemeteries earlier and fired a salute to the fallen.

Landscape Drive Seeks Gifts to Reach City Beautification Goal

Rittman Chamber of Commerce aims to raise 500 dollars for a City Landscape Fund to screen the local dump off Route 94. Only 403 dollars has been collected from industry groups and trustees. lack of substantial donations this week could foil plans for trees, hedges, and shrubs. Local volunteers donate soil delivery and equipment as the project seeks trucks and drivers to haul fill dirt from Zollinger pit. Citizens are urged to contribute one to five dollars to improve the dump’s appearance and city first impression.

Seven-Year-Old Girl Narrowly Escapes Death

School Patrolman John Bellamy and Rev. Virgil Snyder saved seven year old Jean Graham of South Main Street from a runaway car near the post office square in Rittman. The vehicle lurched from a curb, brushing Bellamy as the girl’s torn coat testified to the danger.

Services Friday For Earl Shrock

Funeral services will be Friday for Earl Shrock 67 of Portage Road in Doylestown. Services will be at Pim Funeral Home Wooster with burial in Apple Creek Cemetery. He died Tuesday. Shrock was born in Holmes County. Continued on Page 6.

Rittman Homecoming Parade Plans Four Day Event

Rittman announces a four day homecoming August 17 20 with a large parade a big display tent rides games and a queen. Ashton Hall leads the parade committee with Gene Sharick and others arranging a 1960 Ford Falcon prize night drawings and tickets for entries. City pride and local organizations sponsor the celebration aiming for a record parade turnout.

Social Events Planned for Rawiga Members at Club

Rawiga Country Club schedules seven social events over the next two months. A men’s star on June 10 at the clubhouse followed by a card party on June 17 led by Roger Hessidence and Karl Melenbacker. A June 24 teen record hop with Dick Phillips offering $10 in records. A June 30 ladies luncheon bridge. July events include a men’s stay on July 15 a card party on July 22 and a dance on July 30. Ritt man Booster Club Names New Board Members

Roger Hessidence Vernon Steiner and Ray Semmler are named to the Booster Club Board of Directors this week. Ken Leatherman Bill Williams and James Frye were previously named to the board. The club officers are board members who decide group projects. The board meets next Monday at 9 p.m at Williams Restaurant to plan purchasing new lights for the football field.

Goody and Watts Set for Saturday Court Pleas

Kenneth Watts and Charles Goody, both residents of Rittman, are to appear in Wayne County Common Pleas Court on Saturday for arraignments. Watts faces charges for a double murder in Warwick, while Goody is indicted for the alleged premeditated murder of his wife Vergie and stabbing his mother in law Cynthia White. Bond for Goody is set at 5000. Watts is jailed. Mrs White is reported in fairly good condition.

Seven Fined In Mayor's Court In Ohio Town

Mayor O A Hourlan presided over cases in which John Cristy of Wadsworth was fined 19.50 for resisting arrest and 10 for disturbing the peace. Sheridan Holiday of Rittman paid 29.50 for intoxication and 15 for resisting arrest. Fred Landis of Rittman received 10 for no lights and 20 for a bad muffler. John Edward Ryneer of RD 1 Rittman was fined 39.50 for reckless driving and 10 for disturbing the peace. Kish Porter of Rittman was fined 105.50 and sentenced to three days in jail for DWI. Woodrow Smith of Rittman faced assault and battery charges with a 54.50 fine. Billy Hutchins of Rittman was fined 29.50 for reckless driving.

Rittman Graduations Schedule with Baccalaureate and Trip

In the coming seven days Rittman students face baccalaureate class trip and graduation. Sixty three seniors receive diplomas June 7 with addresses by Kathy Moore and Bill Breece presenting the class gift. Eighth grade commencement, a junior high diplomas ceremony, and a Washington DC trip included.

Long Illness Fatal Arline R McElwee of Rittman

Arline R McElwee 62 of R.D. 1 Rittman died Tuesday at home after a long illness. Born in Dover Ohio she lived in Rittman over 55 years. Survived by husband Joseph one son Joseph A of Wadsworth one daughter Kathleen Vinson two siblings and three grandchildren. Funeral from St Ann's Church Rittman with burial in St Ann's Cemetery. Rosary Thursday evening.
