Rittman Seeks Wayne County League Membership

Rittman school administrators moved to join the Wayne County League this week. The Athletic Council approved the motion, the Board of Education sanctioned it, and Superintendent W H Hauenstein will request admittance from the league’s Executive Board. If accepted, Rittman would join an eight team basketball and baseball league with Smithville Norwayne Dalton Dalton Northwestern Waynedale and Shreve. Northwestern would skip football.

PTA Scholarship Awarded to Janice Goodhart at Rittman

Janice Goodhart received the two year PTA Scholarship at Rittman High School graduation exercises, presented by past PTA president Joe Powers. She is the fifth Rittman student to win the award for those entering the teaching profession.

Teaching Force Nears Full Strength with Three Hired

The Rittman Board of Education hired three new teachers at West Hill and added two pending positions. Mrs. Fred Flohia will teach third grade at 5500 dollars, replacing a resignation. Miss Barbara Staley will teach girls physical education. Fred Kloba becomes industrial arts teacher at 6100 dollars, replacing a retiree. Some openings remain in high school for art and commercial studies.

Mediation Service Enters Labor Contract Talks

A U S Mediation Service representative joined negotiations between Packaging Corporation of America and the International Brotherhood of Pulp Sulphite and Paper Mill Workers. Federal mediator Edward O’Brien met separately with each side to summarize proposals and identify definitive issues. Both sides report progress and amicable discussions. O’Brien is connected to the Akron office.

Three Arts Club Dinner Meeting Plans and Tour

The Three Arts Club met June 8 with 13 members and one guest Miss Evelyn Baker. They dined at Kanses in Akron then toured Stan Hywet Hall. A brief business session in Wadsworth voted a $10 landscaping contribution to the Chamber of Commerce and planned August Rittman Homecoming booth for Blind Workers of Ohio crafts.

Norwayne FFA Earns Second in State Dairy Judging

Three Norwayne High School FFA members Glen Riggenbach Gayland Beery and Jim Rupp placed second in the State Dairy Judging contest at Ohio State University Columbus June The team scored 1267 points with Jim ranking in the top 10 among 722 competitors from 241 high schools Coach Lynn Welker supervised the vocational agriculture effort.

Rittman High 1960 Chieftain Dedicates Book to Stoltzfus

The 1960 Chieftain yearbook distributed Tuesday honors retiring Industrial Arts instructor Eli Stoltzfus after 19 years in the Rittman school system. Ratka Mihailovich and John Kunkler named yearbook Queen and King by student election held months earlier. identities kept secret until distribution. Ratka follows her sister who held the honor last year. Theme of the book is Outer.

Yearbooks on sale for 1960 at Rittman High School

Yearbooks priced at 3.75 dollars will be sold at the high school ticket booth Monday from 2 to 4 p m. Those who ordered books but have not yet picked them up may collect them then. Co editors were Sandi Schaad and Almeda Jacquays with Helen Heinrich as business manager and Karen Adams as art director. Staff included Art Hall Dave Bernhardt Shirley Gordon Lois Perry and Alice Warner. Typists were Carolyn Beyer Sharon Hoff and Sandi Goffinet. Advisors were Mrs Witzberger and Mrs Fields.

Skraba May Be Back Soon To Face Charges

21 Graduates To Attend College From Rittman High School

Twenty one of sixty three graduating seniors at Rittman High School are bound for college. College of Wooster Receives 100000 Gift for Library Endowment

The College of Wooster said it received a $100,000 gift from the Irene Heinz Given and John La Porte Given Foundation Inc New York to establish the Given Foundation Endowment for the college library. Income will be used to buy books and periodicals designated as from the Given Foundation Endowment, announced by Miss Maudie Linn Nesbitt at the Friends of Library annual meeting.
