The Rittman senior class invites Congressman John McSweeney to a Friday noon lunch at Hotel Lafayette in Washington before a three day trip. They depart by B and O railroad at 10 54 pm and plan visits to Arlington Alexandria Mt Vernon and the Annapolis Naval Academy.

Applicants To File For Rural Carrier Civil Service Job

Rural mail carrier positions at the Rittman Post Office accept applications until June 23. Postmaster Herald W Mongey announced the test will be held in Rittman, with the date to be announced later. US citizens residing in the Rittman postal territory are eligible, with forms available at the Rittman Post Office or the Civil Service Commission in Washington DC.

Scout Day Camp Moves to Park Location

The Girl Scout Day camp location has moved from the Scout Lodge to Rittman Central Park on 1st St. All scouts meet at the large pavilion at 10 am Friday. If rain cancels, the meeting will be postponed to Friday June 10 and held in Central Park.

County Prepares School Entry Physical Examinations

County health department will conduct physical examinations for children entering school next fall. Dr D S McDill, commissioner, says exams for Rittman preschoolers are at the high school Home Economics dept on Tuesday June 14 from 9 to 11 am and 1 to 3 pm. He will visit Doylestown Tuesday June 7 and Marshallville and Sterling on June 15 with morning and afternoon slots. Immunization for smallpox and diphtheria will be offered later. exact dates to be announced.

Mrs Olive Brickel Victim of Heart Attack

Mrs Olive Brickel 77 died suddenly of a heart attack at home in Wadsworth on May 25. Funeral services were held May 28 at the Reform ed church in Wadsworth with burial in Wadsworth cemetery. She leaves two sons Herl and Floyd E, six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, two sisters and three brothers. Mr and Mrs Garland McComas and their children spent Memorial Day weekend with relatives near Fort Gay West Virginia.

Ohio Central Gobbles Up 37 Exchanges In Two Decades

Ohio Central Telephone Company, founded 1926, has acquired control of 37 exchanges serving 45 communities over the past 23 years. A Citizens’ Phone Protest Committee survey questions whether expansion outweighed service improvements as the firm reports 27,016 telephones in service and an urban population over 57,000.

Highway Department Erects Markers Near Rittman

The highway department will place seven new signs around Rittman to help drivers. Five signs are near Wadsworth and two on route 94 at intersections with Routes 604 and 5. W I Zink, traffic and safety supervisor, announced the plan. The Rittman Chamber of Commerce had urged more signs and noted other county road markers require county engineer consent.

Naval Academy To Graduate Bodager

Midshipman Bill Bodager son of Mr and Mrs W W Bodager will graduate from the U S Naval Academy in Annapolis Maryland. He entered June 11 1945 and came via the Bainbridge Prep program after six months at that facility. Bodager previously spent a year in the Marines and graduated from Rittman High School in 1943.

Rittman Softball Team Opens Season With Three Games

Rittman Merchants softball has one win and two losses in three starts. Under manager Ray Armbrust the team plays home games Tuesday nights at 8:30 on City field. Star Ed Armbrust stole bases and led the offense in the May 17 27 7 win over Orrville Colts.

Graduation Exercises Held for Rittman Junior High Class

The Rittman junior high class held graduation in the high school auditorium on Friday May 27. Leonard Ovei of the Board of Education presented diplomas and spoke on the value of education. The program featured Nellie McCaslin's Clever Marya and the Czar with Patricia O'Brien as Marya Alsa and a cast including Frank Hardgrove Carl Maslak Gene Graber and others. A mixed chorus sang Your Land and My Land, and several solos and instrumentals completed the ceremony before a reception at City Hall chaperoned by Clara and Mildred Winkler.

Captains to Choose Teams for June Scouting Drive

Rittman leaders plan a two week June drive to raise operating funds for Boy Scouts and Cub activities. Drive chairman R Graham Hugey said kickoff is Monday June 20 with final reports by July 5 and teams of about 100 solicitors to be formed next Tuesday night.

Commencement for 30 Graduates at Rittman High

Dr Paul L Mec Kay urged 30 graduates at Rittman High School to cultivate positive thoughts for direction and purpose as diplomas were handed out by John W Baldwin. The ceremony featured music, a class address, and remarks from officials and community members.
