Mardi Gras Royalty Named for City Parade

Patty Gish and Jim Hileman were chosen as Mardi Gras royalty by local playground participants. Alternates are Danny Yoho and Jane Halliwell, with Grandview Park reps named as well. Parade events include a 4 30 pm start from American Legion Hall and TV character themed entries, followed by a chicken barbecue at American Legion Hall with tickets at 1.50 for adults and 75 cents for children.

Residents Urge Quick Action Over Sewer Infiltration Study

City council approved funds to photo photograph 18 000 feet of sewer lines to locate storm water infiltration after residents along North Main Street reported 20 inches of basement sewage flooding following heavy rain. Masons and Stars Picnic Scheduled for August Ninth

The annual Masonic and Eastern Star picnic will be at Craftsman Park Barberton on Sunday August ninth. Members should bring a filled picnic basket and table service. After heavy rains sent torrents through Aver towing Landis Ditch and under the Industrial Street bridge a boy named Billy Hathaway was swept downstream. Neighbor Robert Schneltzer and helper Dorriny Calabria pulled him from swift waters near 184 Wayne Street as onlookers gathered. Billy, bruised but fine, was returned to his parents at 161 Industrial. he plans to start kindergarten at North Street School this fall.

Strike Continues At Ohio Edison Rittman Office

Five members of a local trade group remain on strike at the Ohio Edison office in Rittman. About 670 workers statewide walked off January 15 after no new contract was signed. supervisory staff in the Rittman division have been handling the local workload since the strike began.
