Parakeet Pixie Found After Month Away in Ohio Town
In Rittman Ohio the Sohars mourned the loss of their blue and white parakeet Pixie for about a month. The bird wandered more than three miles from Route 604 and was safely returned after being spotted by neighborhood girls and identified as the Sohars’ pet. Strike Negotiations Press on at PCA and Ohio Edison
Negotiations for a packing contract at Packaging Corporation of America and for a settlement of the Ohio Edison strike continued at press time Tuesday. Both sides declined public comment after meetings with federal mediator Chris Siesky in Akron. If no near settlement by today, the union will likely issue a 10 day strike notice for August 14. The PCA contract expired August 1. At Ohio Edison, talks with IBEW members in the Akron Youngstown division and broader affiliates narrowed differences, with a meeting in Akron planned to push toward a settlement. Rittman IBEW members are part of Massillon division, including Warren, Alliance, Sandusky, Mansfield, Marion, Lorain, and Elyria. A settlement for the Akron Youngstown division was reached Monday.

Glen Bartram of Packaging Corporation of America at mills one and two won the $1 050 maximum tangible savings award for his first idea improving a stock system. The company has paid out over $8 070 in the past eleven months with record participation. Jim Beichler also from mills one and two earned 267 for proposing a bypass of the dry stack. Ralph Mason received 27 for preventing slip of cores from shaft. Dean Boyd won 28 for an improved packing gland. Three suggestions earned 15 and ten others earned 5 or 10 while ten more individuals received smaller awards.

Press Box Project Ramps Up At Rittmans High School Field
Booster Club sponsors a sturdy new 18 by 10 foot press box rising 22 feet above the bleachers on Second Street. Designed by Coach Homer Pyle, it will host concessions storage and first aid on the bottom floor, press and PA on the second, coaching booths on the third, with roof space for visiting photographers. Erected by C B Shook and Herl Brickel, Ly man Gish chairs the project. Jerry Lambert aids in fundraising as footers were donated by Don Niehaus amid months of planning to replace the old wobbly structure.
