Daily Vacation Bible School closes in rainy Presbyterian gathering

The closing exercises were held Tuesday at the Presbyterian church with many parents and visitors despite a downpour. The program featured an Assembly for Worship, memory work, and class exhibits including raffia work and crafts. Attendance honors listed for various age groups. A community picnic is planned for Saturday August 7 at Summit Beach Park, organized by the Rittman Auto Club with other groups supporting.

Steam Cooker Burst at Bechtel's Restaurant

A steam pressure cooker burst at M W Bechtel's restaurant last Saturday when the safety valve failed. A ham cooking in the cooker was lost, but no injuries occurred and only the cooker, hood, and a window were damaged.

Gypsy tour by H A Ruckel and Floyd Smith families

Early Sunday morning the H A Ruckel family and the Floyd Smith family left for a gypsy tour by automobile. The group will visit southern Ohio first and then neighboring states, planning to rough it with tents and camping gear.

Floyd Mavie and Miss Laura Smith were married Thursday morning by Rev M L Sands at the Brethren parsonage in Smithville. Both are well known in the area and receive the best wishes of many friends on their matrimonial voyage.

Auctioneer G A Wyer Dies In Massillon Hospital

G A Wyer of Orville Wayne County died at Massillon City Hospital Saturday evening at 6 o clock after an operation Friday. A lifelong resident and well known auctioneer his sales took him across the country. Born in Milton township in 1870 he was 56 years one month and 29 days old. Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon.

Symphony Concert 18 Postponed

Rainy weather last Tuesday forced the postponement of the Me dina Symphony Orchestra concert in Ritt man Central Park. The committee moved the performance to Tuesday evening August 3 with 60 pieces to delight music lovers.

U B Sunday School Picnic At Rittman Park

The U B Sunday school held its annual picnic in Rittman Central Park on Wednesday afternoon with unusual attendance. Guests enjoyed games and a 6 oclock dinner served to all, and the Rev Barton showed skill at horseshoe pitching while everyone shared the cats and lively festivities.

The regular monthly auction takes place Friday July 30 at 1 20 P M at the Rittman barns. Twenty five head of choice cows will be sold along with hogs and used cars.

Toreadors Rout Vang Aggregation in Local Baseball clash

The Toreadors defeated Vang Aggregation 12 to 7 on the local grounds. Hardgrove, Ward and McGary starred for the Toreadors while Renny and Steele led the Vang defense. The series continues next Monday with a chicken supper prize for the series winner.

Doylestown Woman Rosa Ott Dies at 76

Rosa Ott widow of George Ott of Doylestown died Tuesday after a lingering illness at age 76. She was a well known resident of Chippewa township. Funeral services were held Thursday at 9 AM from St. Peter and Paul’s Church in Doylestown.

Rittman Fishing Party Returns From Canada

The Daily Examiner of Petersborough Ontario reports a Rittman fishing party returned from camp near Hastings. The party notes cub bears thriving at Rittman park, now resembling circus bears, per Hastings reporter. Members include Mr and Mrs E J Wheeler, Mr and Mrs E B Mills and daughter, Mr and Mrs R U Hall, Mr and Mrs Arley Trent, and Mr and Mrs Saunders. Bears were secured by J H Fisher and presented to the Rittman park board.

Etling to Speak at Swiss Picnic Near Massillon

Alton H Etling of Orrville Democratic state senate candidate will address the Swiss picnic at Brookfield lake along Lincoln highway near Massillon on Sunday August 1. He spoke at a Swiss gathering south of Orrville last year and will again speak at Kimberlin's grave on August 16. Switzers from Cleveland Akron Canton Youngstown and Columbus are expected. The program features patriotic addresses Swiss dishes dancing and wrestling as part of Swiss Independence Day observances.

Rittman Community Picnic at Summit Beach Park

The boys and girls attending the community picnic on Saturday August 7 at Summit Beach Park will enjoy a big time as thousands of tickets are distributed for their use. Members of the Rittman Business Men's association have bought tickets for children's use and many others contribute. Residents can contact the ticket committee of Rittman's Community Picnic General Arrangements committee to help with fun or transportation.
