On Tuesday evening the Medina Symphony Orchestra directed by John Beck performed for a large local audience in ideal weather. Receipts totaled $162.18 with only 2 cents left after expenses.

Wayne county board of education re elected Supt V A Garver to the county board of school examiners. He has served as president of the board and retains that position.
The Toreadors defeated the business men of Rittman 6 to 2 in a twilight contest at the local field. Toreadors led early and maintained the advantage, with key plays driving the win.
A complete farm sale including all farm equipment and items will take place Saturday August 14 at the premises of Lewie Merkovitz in Rittman Ohio. The listing notes the sale includes all farm implements and related property available at the site.
At a special meeting last Friday the new degree team excelled and the drill team and tableau received praise. Melvin Gray, in recovery from head injuries, attended, and Bertha Lance underwent an appendicitis operation but is recovering. A canvas showed few could attend the Summit Beach picnic due to harvest. The Ohio Governsey Breeders' Association field day is set for Wooster fair grounds on August 5. The Calf Club plans to attend, with half its members Grangers. Next meeting moved from August 13 to 6 to align with the Chautauqua closing. Valley College Grange visit declined for now.
A Branigan building shoe store moved out this Monday amid low advertising. The proprietor, holding a large stock, relocated the inventory back to Cleveland, reflecting limited local promotion and a recent relocation.
Community announces events at Summit Beach Park starting Saturday with a picnic. Next week Rittman’s annual Redpath Chautauqua runs Monday to Friday, with tickets via Snyder’s and local ads praising a strong program. Labor Day celebration follows, supported by business leaders, with out of town bands already secured.
Pupils of Miss Kinch performed a varied program at the Brenneman home in Shinersburg featuring duets, recitations, solos by Vera Kohler Arthur Kauffman Jennie Gainer Helen Faber Lucile Poate Mary Brenneman and Waldine Gregg. Waldine Gregg received a Beethoven portrait for best name submission for the local music organization now to be known as The Rittman Progressive Music Club.
Ordell W. Baker, 15, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Baker, died after a brief illness that began with influenza and progressed to pneumonia. A student at Ideal High School he would have entered his sophomore year. Funeral services are set for Friday at 1 30 PM from the Brethren church, and the family receives community sympathy.
During the month of August our studio will close at 6 p m daily except Friday and Saturday Films left at the Rittman Baking company will have our usual care.
Labor Day plans in Wayne County feature multiple parade floats and two first class bands. American Legion posts will participate with stunts, including a prize sketch based on a painting in the Berlin Museum. Disposition tickets will be handed out to spectators not affected by tetanus.
Rumor says Rittman will add a silver fox industry with K G Branigan and C B Shock pursuing the project. Foxes have been purchased and stock quality is said to be high, though details on the venture are not yet clear.
At Monday evening's meeting the board of education chose R B McCoy for janitor of the First Street and Main Street school buildings succeeding the late J B Lambert. A Petit remains janitor at the High School. West Liberty ministers elected as teachers to fill vacancies from resignations of Mrs Noose and Miss Landis. Vote for Willis Horn for Common Pleas Judge.
The Riltiah post office will provide morning mail delivery by carriers next Saturday to enable attendance at the Community event. Those wishing to call for mail at the post office any time Saturday afternoon will be served.
Mrs Charles Newman and Mrs F W Foerstner hosted a luncheon bridge at the Foerstner cottage in Turkeyfoot lakes on Wednesday. Twenty three guests attended a sumptuous meal of spring chicken and sides before five bridge tables, with honors won by Mrs Jane Snyder and Mrs E Heirs. Afternoon guests included Mrs C Serex of Hudson New York Miss Florence Foster of Morris Illinois and Miss Edith Ferris of Philadelphia Pennsylvania.
This week Friday a party from Rittman will travel to Hastings Ontario for a fishing expedition. The group includes Mr and Mrs Quimby and daughter Guelle, Mr and Mrs Trevo Hiner and three grandchildren, and Mr and Mrs Tim Johnson. Also Mr and Mrs L J Gigandt and Mr and Mrs Eddie Gigandt. Three machines and a trailer are needed to transport the party and gear.
Special to the Press Fort Benjamin Harrison Indiana August 3 Wayne Kurtz of Rittman Ohio attending the Citizens Military Training Camp here has been elected captain of the Company D baseball team. Ten teams compete in the regimental league. Company D is tied for first in the first battalion and may win the championship.
Ezix Horat of this place and Mrs. Mary Mishler of Smithville were married last Wednesday in Smithville by Rev. Swander. The couple will reside in Rittman where both have many friends.
