Local committee travels to Columbus to urge immediate action on repaving South Main Street. City council agrees to repave this fall after state highway officials discuss funding and plans amid budget talks and wage-raise debates.
Union officials say the planned N.L.B.E ordered election at the Ohio Box board plant is advancing quickly. Voting will occur in the smoking room near the cafeteria but the exact time has not been set yet. Hours will be arranged to avoid loss of work time.
Rittman B Club will hold its second auction sale late in August. President L. L. Wilmot urged residents to donate saleable items such as furniture clothing antiques and toys to support Rittman High School athletic teams. Myron Steiner principal of First Street School agreed to serve as auctioneer and contact details were provided.
Members of the Three Arts Club plan a pet puppets show in the park on Friday August 5 at 10 30 am open to all ages with a ten cent charge. The show features Yvonne Somers as showman and built stage by her father O H Somers superintendent of Mogado schools.
W. W. Bodager announced a Democratic caucus Friday July 29 at 8 p.m. in city hall. Candidates for city offices including councilmen mayor clerk and others will be named.
Local Board No. 124 Wayne County calls on all men turning eighteen to register on their birthday or within five days. Delinquent registrants will be published and must contact the Local Board within one week or face referral to the U S Attorney and possible immediate induction or heavy penalties.
Three women shared seventy five dollars in last week's bonus drawing. Mrs John Alexander won first prize fifty dollars, June Volek earned fifteen dollars, and Mrs El mer Croft took ten dollars. Next week's drawing will be at the square. no decision yet on who will run it.
The S Main street crossing on the Erie R R line was finished this week with new asphalt paving. Crews completed the job after delays and opened late Wednesday afternoon to traffic. The smoother surface marks a notable improvement over the prior concrete and the work is described as well worth the extra time.
Mrs Melvin Kennedy and children of Marshallville Ohio and Mrs Edward Ball of 258 South Main Street were Monday guests of Mrs Ray Yochheim at Willow Brook.
A civic committee led by Mayor Melvin R. Ritter met P U C officials to press for improved telephone service in Rittman. They cited aging equipment and interruptions, noting larger cities are bypassed. Commissioner Weiland ordered an engineer to visit and assess conditions.
Ohio Boxboard paid $677 for nine ideas in its suggestion system including a $313 prize to Councilman Roy Forrer for a cut out knife set concept. Clarence Stevans won the second highest $113. other winners included Leonard McElhaney James Keltz William Tisher Alvis Cyrus Elmer Hostetler Edward Anschutz and Harry Hershberger.
East of town Charley’s Puddle draws attention for a new dump a feature story and now fish life problems. The Rod and Gun club worries over fish deaths and preservation efforts as authorities consider measures.
Doyle Ashbrook, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Ashbrook of 113 South State Street Dayton, has graduated from Parker Vocational school. He worked at National Cash Register Co. while attending night classes, and the company will assist him to finish college training.
The Navy Mothers club invites members and husbands to a covered dish supper at the Cheese Factory on Tuesday August 9 at 7 00 p m. Attendees should bring their own table service.
Water lines were flushed Monday night after many residents reported dirty water. State health officials say the sediment, a mix of iron calcium and phosphates from well water, accumulated over time and poses no contamination risk according to Water Commissioner A J Grant.
