State To Resurface Highway 94 In August For Route 94 Near Rittman

The state highway department will resurface Route 94 south of Rittman with an inch of 80 lb bituminous mix starting around August 15. State Engineer T K Trautman said the project is a year one measure funded by gas tax money, with hopes for future widening and complete rebuilding sought by local business leaders.

Betsy the Coons in Central Park Rittman

Betsy, a friendly coon adopted in Rittman four months ago, lives in the monkey cage with keeper Alpheus Goffinet. The small animal loves candy, follows staff, and is labeled a male despite no boy friends, endearing to children who named her Betsy.

75 Rittman Children Visit Cleveland for Tribe-Yankee Game

About 75 Rittman youngsters journeyed to Cleveland Tuesday for a Tribe Yankee game before roughly 20,000 fans. Pool program for non swimmers moves ahead next Wednesday

Mrs Yockey cannot teach due to lost help but Jim Van Gilder and Don Baker will assist instructors. The plan targets grade school children who are non swimmers and will run 10 to 11 am every Wednesday from start until school begins with transportation if needed and no charge for pool use.

A schedule lists events at a park with two pavilions. The Large Pavilion hosts Shoals Reunion on July 2b and Shdok Reunion on July 24 and a Boy Scout picnic at Wadsworth Lutheran Church on July 25. The Small Pavilion hosts Minger Reunion on July 24.

Carnival Fever Hits Sterling and Marshallville Carnivals

Sterling and Marshallville hosted open season carnivals featuring booths games and music. In Sterling a rolling-ball game and Dalton and the Dokey Drum Corp from Cleveland drew crowds while Marshallville highlighted a fish-pole hoop game and fire department food stands. Prizes were awarded as Johnny Erwin and Jimmy Bechiol won the final prizes. Committee heads included Paul Glessner and Harry Werntz with help from the Doylestown Fire Dept. Both events were reported as successes.

Push Ticket Sales For Chip Carnival

Ticket sales for the Doylestown Carnival drawn prizes Aug 15 and 16 are stepped up with the American Legion Lions Club Fire Department and Firemen's Auxiliary sponsoring in turn. A supper picnic at Memorial Park will honor the Firemen and the automobile prize will be on display next Sunday at Geauga Lake during the Tri-County Firemen's Field Day led by L B Witschey.

Creston and Sterling Power Cut for Upgrades

Creston and Sterling will lose electrical power from 7 to 9 a.m. next Wednesday as Ohio Public Service Company installs new equipment to protect lines from lightning. Manager H C Longworth says the project aims to improve future service and that the morning two hour window minimizes impact on rural and town customers.

Union Election Date Set for August 2nd

The Ohio Box plant schedules an August 2 election between rival unions. Conducted by the National Labor Relations board, voting runs 5 30 am to 12 pm between shifts as the plant operates. The vote decides whether the A F L Pulp and Sulphite Workers Union or the CIO United Paper Workers will be the bargaining agent.

Largest Crowd At Merchants' Drawing

The season’s largest crowd attended the merchants drawing in Rittman. Winners were W. E. Hoskinson who won 50 dollars, Laurence Sprowl who won 30 dollars, and Tracey Smith who won 10 dollars. Merchants will offer 75 dollars in bonus gifts this Saturday at 8:30 PM near Salt and Main Street.

Guns Found Tied to North Fairfield Bank Robbery

Two guns believed used by Paul Boyes and James Perry were found at the Virgil Fair farm west of Wooster after they changed a flat tire nearby. Homer Jackson located the firearms following the robbery.

Tillie Krabilk 80 Dies in Sterling

Tillie Krabilk age 80 of Sterling died at 230 Wednesday morning at Wadsworth Municipal Hospital. She was a lifelong Milton Township resident and member of Wadsworth Mennonite Church. Surviving: daughter Mrs Jay Brenneman of Rittman, son Asa Krabil of Sterling, two sisters, a brother, and a grandson.
