Rittman Mardi Gras Plans Highlight August Event
Plans announced for the seventh annual Rittman Mardi Gras to be held Friday August nine sponsored by the Rittman Recreation Dept under Mrs James Black. Parade starts seven p m downtown with Mr and Miss Rittman in ages four to six chosen by popular vote. Ballots printed in the Press must be in judges hands by 5 p m August 6 delivered or mailed to the Mr and Miss Rittman Contest Rittman Press. Voting open to all with one vote per person. Registration at 6 30 p m August nine at the N Main recreation field. Seven classes prize awarded including prettiest float and costumes. Parade route from Main Street Recreation field to the square where the king and queen crowned by Mayor John Baldwin. Winners receive special gifts.

Wenger to represent region in Miss Ohio pageant
Virginia Faye Wenger, Miss WWST in Wooster, will represent Wayne Holmes Medina and Ashland counties at the Miss Ohio Pageant on August 2 at Wayne County Fair grounds. She competes with ten area winners for a chance to go to Miss America in Atlantic City. Wenger is a Wooster College music student, daughter of Mr. and Mrs R D Wenger.

329 Blood Donors Still Needed for August 14
Fifty five more area residents signed to donate when the bloodmobile visits Rittman on August 14, raising the total to 145, thirty five short of the 180 goal. Call the Rittman Press or sign up at Blood Schectrom on August 7. Donors are urged from Sterling and Doylestown with lists of volunteers from both areas and 16 new Rittman donors. Volunteers must be healthy between 18 and 60 with no major surgery in 12 months and no active malaria or yellow jaundice.

Doylestown Homecoming Set for July 31 to August 3
The annual Doylestown Homecoming hosted by the Lions Club American Legion and Fire Department runs July 31 to August 3. Opening night Soap Box Derby parade starts at 7 p.m. in the square followed by a large parade with many groups. Prizes include merchant awards each night and a Saturday grand prize of a 1957 Ford. a kiddie parade and an on-site x ray unit are also planned.

Rittman to Get Dial Telephone System Next Year
Rittman officials expect a dial telephone system by next year after six months of talks. Lima engineers visited to review sites, with three lots under consideration for a new plant. The plan includes 24 more toll circuits and an extra operator by fall to ease long distance delays. A public phone booth will be installed in Sterling this week.

Funeral services held for Isaac Bott at First Brethren Church
Isaac H. Bott 60 of Smithville died Saturday after a lingering illness. Born near Apple Creek, he lived in Rittman 1 20 years before moving to Smithville three years ago. He worked 23 years for Ohio Boxboard Co. and is survived by his wife daughter Mary K. Zook mother Nettie Bott and three sisters. Interment in Smithville Cemetery.

He immigrated from Alsace Lorraine in 1891 and settled in Sterling where he farmed and retired twenty years ago.
