Wooster Man Buys Wenger Furniture Store

Carl Braunstein of Wooster has purchased Wenger Furniture on South Main Street and took over operations Thursday. He will keep the store name and policies. Braunstein, previously owner of Sally's Dress Shop in Wooster, is a well known local figure. Debbie Champlin, daughter of Charles and Mrs, Champlin, fell in the park and needed stitches after cutting her mouth.

Ohio Boxboard employees picnic at Chippewa Lake Park

A full day of events is planned for Saturday at Chippewa Lake Park. Morning activities include games for all ages and an exhibition CBC Management Club versus Morton Salt Little League game. After lunch rides are free for four hours, ending with an amphitheater show.

Police fines and charges for local motorists and others

Richard Johnson faced fines for driving with an insufficient muffler and destruction of property, totaling 35 dollars plus costs. Oleg Harvey was fined 15 dollars for operating a vehicle with an insufficient muffler. Roy Boggs received a 10 dollar fine for reckless driving. Albert Stewart was charged with assault and battery, fined 50 dollars with 40 suspended, and placed on six months probation. Jack Stamper and Ruby Stamper were fined 25 dollars for disturbing the peace, with suspensions and six months probation for Ruby.

Water shortage plans studied by two city committees

The Rittman Wadsworth Conservation Association met with state and federal flood control and conservation agencies to discuss a potential reservoir for the area. The dam would provide water year round, flood control, recreation, and soil conservation benefits, requiring public cooperation and engineering studies before any aid or plan. The site under consideration lies between Rittman and Wadsworth, and the next meeting on August 7 will focus on financing an engineering study.

Four Rittman boys set for Wayne County Soap Box Derby

Four local boys from Rittman race Sunday in the Wayne County Soap Box Derby on County Rd 44 near Apple Creek. The event, part of county eliminations, will send a winner to the All American Derby in Akron. Sponsors include Sinclair and Valentine Ink Co and Hershey and Rohrer.

Football practice set to begin August twentieth at N Main field

RHS coach Homer Pyle announced practice starts August 20 with sessions at the N Main Street Recreation field next to the recreation building. Thirty one players have signed for the coming season. Mrs Helen Eudis of Rittman had gallstone surgery two weeks ago at St Marys Hospital in Huntington WV and now resides Route 1 Wayne WV. Mr and Mrs Don Leatherman welcomed daughter Rebecca Marie born Saturday July 14 at Orrville Osteopathic Hospital.
