Council accepts bid for Hicken Ave sewers
The Rittman city council approved a low bid of almost 22000 for storm sewers curbs and gutters on Hicken Ave. A. H. Costanzo and Sons Co. of Wooster submitted the bid and the project was estimated at 28000 with bids ranging up to over 26000. Work must start within 75 days of the contract let and the council hopes to award within a few weeks.

Council hires engineer officially
At Monday's regular meeting the council abolished the street commissioner post, created a city engineer job and hired Larry Smith. He has served since July 1 and gave his first report. He will receive 6100 dollars annually with 1 half of his salary and equipment costs funded by the board of public affairs. He reported on tiling a ditch behind the Fillows property on Salt Street and plans to plant trees to hide the city dump. He will paint traffic lines at the square starting Wednesday 5 am. The council and board of public affairs share salary and equipment costs. Two hour parking signs were discussed and the matter was deemed an advantage to merchants. Zoning changes for several areas were approved or tabled as noted. The meeting also addressed a pending gas rate issue.
