Local fishermen report big fish sightings but no saucers have been logged. Dr Alexander found 15 pounds of mail waiting on return from vacation and discarded eight pounds. Oberlin boasts high bicycle ownership and has had no traffic fatalities for eight years.

Supt W H Hauenstein spoke at the Lions club on a 25 year forecast for US education. He reviewed past century progress and noting various schools of thought while predicting a shift toward vocational training and greater emphasis on individual pupil ability in teaching.
Charles Rohrer announced a Republican caucus would convene Wednesday July 16 at 8 p m in the municipal building council room.
A Presbyterian women's auxiliary meeting recommends canning extra fruit vegetables or preserves this season and reserving one or two cans for Boys Village at Smithville. Rev Clarence Kerr founder reacts with gratitude. Women plan fall collection possibly with Scout help and urge all area women to participate by canning and reserving a can each time.
Tom Young of Grandview will become industrial relations director for Mouldings Inc. of Indianapolis on August 1. The firm makes fittings for automobiles and has about 1,000 employees. He is a former personnel manager of the Ohio Boxboard Co. and has held multiple safety and civic positions.
Rittman prepares for a Friday festival at the high school athletic field starting 7 p.m. featuring Massillon’s 80 piece Tiger band under Orin Ford with a field drill and concert. Ticket sales include a barbecue and chance on $1,000 in prizes. proceeds fund field improvements.
The Ohio Boxboard Co plans a Labor Day event for employees and families with K W Osborne as general chairman. The program will honor long service with pins for 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years plus. An audience of about 5000 is expected on the company athletics field with professional entertainment, possible aerial acrobats, a dancing act and a large fireworks finale.
Miss Margaret Kate of Wooster, Wayne County Child Welfare Board field worker, told Rotarians she handles 293 cases. the ideal load is 50, and she predicted fewer divorces and broken homes as wartime prosperity fades. President K. W. Osborne passed the gavel to retiring vice-president Harry Brenneman. E. G Branigan, who attended the San Francisco international convention, will report July 10, with officers attending the Alliance district conference July 14.
Mr and Mrs Peter Steffens and Mrs Herman Barney of Parma Ohio and Mr and Mrs Herman J Miltz of Cleveland visited the home of Mr and Mrs Howard A House on the Fourth celebrating together.
A son to Mr and Mrs Paul Andes of Akron born June 26 christened Roger Paul. Mrs Andes is formerly Bernetta McAnallen. A son Charles Robert weight 9 44 lbs born at Lodi Hospital on Friday July 4 to Mr and Mrs Charles Edward Trent. A daughter Joan weight 5 lb 12 oz born at Wadsworth Hospital on Saturday July.
A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Millard Watts at their residence 241 Hillside Lane Willow Brook.
Mrs. Ralph Krabill and Mrs. A H Thomas represent Ritt man on Wayne County Cancer Control executive committee. The group met informally at Wooster Tuesday night to plan an educational campaign under chairman E W Stepfield for Doyles town. An exhibit at the Fair is the first general activity planned.
Mr and Mrs Nik Prentovich spent last week visiting his parents in Barberton, detailing a family trip and return plans.
Mr and Mrs Ed Hile celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house in Jackson on July 8. They were married July 8 1897 in Greensburg Pa and moved to Ohio in 1903 living near Creston and Rittman. They have two children four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Miss Pauline Steele of Oberlin was a Sunday guest in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Steele of Fourth street.
Clayton Kunkler announced a Community Bowling League meeting to be held Monday July 14 at 8 p.m. at Spaulding's. All team captains and backers are asked to attend.
