During July and August local Protestant churches hold joint open air services in the park on Sunday evenings at 7 p.m. Inaugurated last Sunday, Rev. R. L. Platter of the Presbyterian church led the first gathering. Local ministers will rotate conducting the services and all citizens are urged to attend.
Rittman’s oldest practicing physician Dr L L Toland will cease active practice this Saturday. He and Mrs Toland plan a month long vacation, after which Toland may pursue uncertain plans but remain a resident. He served during the fire epidemic and cared for many patients in town and country.
The Rittman community moves toward the August 7 picnic at Summit Beach Park with manager Mr. Macdonald and committee members from American Legion, Rittman Automobile Club, Business Men's Association, Grange, and Rotary. NOPL Co. to provide buses. committees named for Publicity Tickets Program Transportation. expects record attendance and child friendly entertainment.
Opening day for the Rittman park was chosen for Saturday July 17. The pavillion is finished with light water gas tables and seats. The bear pit should be completed by Thursday. The event will be under village organizations with a good band and refreshments.
Mrs E W Bechtel was admitted to Wooster City hospital Wednesday morning where Dr Stull performed an operation on a leg below the knee caused by a fall water incident. She is recovering nicely and expected to remain in the hospital about a week with extra care required for a few weeks.
The 16 year old son of I F Lautenslager of Orrville died after a car he parked on South Main street rolled toward a rail crossing and was struck by a Pennsylvania train. He jumped onto the running board to stop it, but momentum carried the vehicle onto the track. The boy was badly injured and died several hours later at a hospital.
On July 1 the local post office upgraded to a second class office and inaugurated improved service. Postmaster Longenecker leads a staff including assistants Franks and Bertha Sherrick, city carriers Walter Keating and Karl Ohler, rural carrier Henry Long, and mail messenger C. R. Schendel. Schendel, the longest-serving, recalls mail growth from a shoulder sack to machine-haul volume.
The condition of J B Lambert, a Rittman pioneer, who suffered a stroke weeks ago, remains practically the same. No noticeable improvement. Friends hope his condition will improve.
A Wayne County grand jury returned eleven indictments. Publicly named defendants include Gaylord Power of Rittman charged with larceny Frances Miller and Edward Gallagher two West Salem boys charged with daytime burglary Charles VanOver of Burbank charged with shooting with intent to wound Roberts McDonald a stranger in Wayne County charged with forgery Joseph Gonzales of Rittman charged with weapons offenses The report notes a dispute with a local road contractor and a Mexican national case for carrying concealed weapons.
The local ball club played two games over July 4 and 6 on out of town fields. Smithville, an old foe, was played July 4 and Rittman lost in a well played game. The local team took kindly to Leasure offers and got a goodly number of hits. On Monday the team played Shreve and came home victors. The game on Monday was exciting with a final score of 3 to 2.
Local committees prepare for season of programs as season tickets go on sale well before the opening date. The Chautauqua association guarantors met to reorganize for the coming year with Dr C C Grekg nominated for reelection amid leadership changes and debate over the presidency from prior years.

The Sunday picture show issue is settled with objections withdrawn subject to conditions. Mr Goffiner agrees and a focal board will approve all Sunday pictures. No film will be shown if the board objects and hours avoid church services.
Mr and Mrs Charles Snyder and Mr and Mrs Fred Snyder depart for an eastern tour visiting Washington DC and other points of interest. The trip will be made by motor in Charles Snyder s car.
On July 1 a license for wed was issued to Allen Johnson Blazer of Grestonian and Laverne Miller of Million townships. Reverend H.R. McFadden was named officiating pastor. Both bride and groom are known locally.

Citizens urged to prepare articles for a fund raising drive by the W. GC. T. U. ladies for the fish pond and grocery store at the park opening on July 17. The committee asks participants to be ready when the solicitor calls.
Mrs. Thomas Charlton, her daughter Mrs. Richard Armstrong, and niece Mrs. Anna McKenna depart from Montreal for New Castle England. All natives of England, they will visit their old home for several weeks and return to Rittman soon. Charlton and Armstrong have lived in Rittman two years. McKenna shorter. Friends wish them bon voyage and early return.
