New Plant Opens In Rittman With Four Local Jobs
Masetoke, a new self contained timber and packing firm, will be managed by the Seward T. Davis Company of 8 North Main Street. Mitchell Stamford will serve as foreman and eight more employees will be hired locally. The operation moves wood from nearby woods to lumber and pallets for delivery by three trucks. Two Cleveland families plan to relocate, and machinery from Cleveland will arrive this week. RAID aided site selection and expect gradual growth as the plant integrates into Rittman’s economy.

Local Woman Crowned Queen For A Day Receives Grand Prize
Betty Whitenack, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Whitenack, won the Queen for a Day program and will travel to Peru for a four year mission project. She received eight car tires, a trip to Texas, and a large wardrobe of gifts plus a sewing machine and household items. Betty plans language training in Costa Rica first, then mission work along Peruvian rivers with the Association of Baptists World Evangelism, starting August.

Services Friday For Tracy Shook Dies At 67
Services will be held Friday at 2 p m for Tracy Shook 67 of 233 West Sunset Drive a member of one of Rittman s oldest families who died Monday at his home after a long illness. He was manager of Shook Lumber Co until ill health ended his active work and had been with the firm since its founding by his father in 1898. He served in World War I in the U S Navy and played in the Navy band under John Philip Sousa. Surviving are wife mother Maude Shook three sons Victor Raynor and Arnold all of Rittman two daughters Mrs Selena Smith Ashland and Mrs Donna Duckworth Rittman 11 grandchildren and one niece Mrs Harvetta Gammell of Rittman One daughter Tracelia preceded him in death in 1921. Rev James E Watt will officiate burial will be in Rittman Cemetery.

Trustees Approve Road Oiling Plans Near Rawiga Golf Course
Milton Township Trustees approved oilying a hard top road to Rawiga's golf course with a gravel base, along Township Road s9, Road 99. The summer plan includes sealing Sterling school and church driveways and town alleys. They paid Rutman $1000 for fire protection per the contract. Garage and maintenance buildings in Sterling are slated for painting this summer.

One Injured in Route 94 Crash Near Rittman
Cris Carey aged 41 of RD Rittman sustained cuts to the head and neck and rib injuries when his car left Ohio 94 about a mile south of Rittman Sunday evening. The vehicle crossed the road and struck a bridge causing heavy front damage. he was taken to Wadsworth Municipal Hospital.

Train fire halts Erie-Lackawanna in Rittman
An east bound Erie-Lackawanna train made an unscheduled stop in Rittman at 6 20 p m Monday after an engineer spotted a generator fire on engine number two near Creston. Local fire department met the train, extinguished the smallest blaze, and the train continued to New York City. Firemen were also summoned Tuesday noon to extinguish a car fire.

Plan Big Fan Day August 17 in Rittman
Rittman plans a one day Fun Festival on Saturday August 17 to cap the summer activity program. The event, hosted by the Rittman Recreation Department with the American Legion and JayCees, features Little League games against two out of town teams, a Water Show at the pool, a Mardi Gras parade, an open-pit barbecue, rides, booths, bingo and a dance with a disc jockey. The parade starts at the American Legion Hall and ends at the recreation area on Industrial Street. Parking will be abundant. A planning meeting is set for Friday evening.
