A family jokes about a child’s “kindergarten word” while a busy week of birthdays anniversaries and school news unfolds. Local residents celebrate birthdays and anniversaries. students and families appear in dean’s list notices. John Pearson from East Bundaberg Queensland arrived in Rittman for a four month stay. He registered at Rittman High, spoke to Rotary about his home town and his 40 hour flight, and shared a pennant from East Bundaberg Rotary. He holds several school leadership roles and cricket activities and plans to study Economics at university.
Rittman Rotary plans to sponsor a Rotaract club for ages 17 to 25 if interest warrants a get acquainted meeting at 7 30 p m Thursday Jan 28 at the public library. President Walt Marquhart says Rotaract aims to raise ethical standards, develop leadership, and foster international understanding through community service and fellowship.
Margaret Gettings 78 of 30 Fairlawn Dr. died Sunday after a three week illness at Wadsworth Rittman Hospital. Born Sept. 2, 1893 in Canal Fulton to Thomas and Mary Gettings she lived most of her life in the Rittman area. She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Societies. She is survived by a sister Mabelle Shockey of Twinsburg. Mass was held at St. Ann with burial at SS Phillip and James Cemetery Canal Fulton. Officiants were Frs. Buescher Boymer and Burkley. Gillman Funeral Home in charge.
The Rittman United Fund will hold its annual meeting in the Social Room at Rittman Savings Bank on January 31 at 8 p.m. Financial reports will be presented and two directors will be elected to the board. Expiring terms belong to J. W. Frye and Robi Gillman. The public is invited.
The Ohio bank gained permission from the Ohio Department of Commerce and the Federal Reserve to establish a Chippewa Lake branch. President A J Broadhurst cites local growth and strong civic support as factors behind the move.
Rep Frank T Bow, Canton resident and long time 16th district member, announces due to ill health he will not run again. A senior Republican on the House appropriations panel, Bow has represented Wayne and Stark counties and is 71 next February.
City council discussed funding and safety concerns for a Milton Road exit off Route 57. A resident questioned city funds and traffic hazard, while the manager defended the project citing urban congestion relief and development benefits.

January 31 Lions Club 6 30 pm Williams Restaurant VFW 8 pm. February 1 Olla Podrida 8 pm hosts Catherine Twinem Edith Bell. Rittman Booster Club 8 pm. American Legion 423 Milton Township Trustees meet. February 2 Jr Mother's Club 8 30 pm at Rittman Savings Bank.
