Milton Township residents filled Sterling High School for the largest local Farmers Institute on record. Newly elected officers include Paul Zook president and George Steele vice president. C A Kenworthy spoke on corn hybrid history and benefits, praising Shull and Ritz as pioneers. Mrs Brary White offered inspirational talks on wise choices and farm partnership.
Winter ice returned to Rittman residents at the municipal field rink with lighted evenings and roaring fires aiding comfort. Adults and youths enjoyed skating while a flood of the recreation field created a spacious, safe venue for winter recreation with no major incidents reported.
Real estate taxes for the first half of 1938 may still be paid at The Rittman Savings Bank, announced by Ralph Krause of the Daily.
Rituman Indians completed the first half of the Central Buckeye League schedule by doubling Orrville 35 to 17 on home court for their fourth league victory. Ramsier led with 19 points, Mills had 11 for Orrville, and Rittman reserves beat Orrville 33 to 12 with Musser scoring 14.
A near full house in the common pleas court room witnessed the creation of a permanent Young Democrats club in Wayne County. Officers include President Ralph Grosjean Orrville and Vice President Mrs Marie Schafftar Wooster with Dor othy Kerr Woolster as secretary and Harold Slater Smithville as treasurer. A ten member committee will draft bylaws and present them next meeting set for February 9 with monthly gatherings on the second Thursday.
Rittman firemen became members of the State Volunteer Association on January 19 announced by Fire Chief F E Winkler. A county group of volunteer firemen is hoped to be organized with a meeting planned for February 10 at City Hall. State president Foran of Akron and state secretary Sid Wellick of Coventry have been invited. Newly elected officers include H W Winkler chief Waldan Iardgrove president Don Brodbeck assistant president Lawrence Stoel miller secretary C L Sayre treasurer and James Hile council member.
Brooks and Opal Bartrum of Rittman were arraigned in Worcester probate court on indictments for contributing to the delinquency of their children by failing to provide a proper home. Mrs Bartrum received a suspended six month jail sentence and one year probation with a home duties stipulation. Bartrum was sentenced to a suspended term in the Ohio penitentiary and three years probation. he had been jailed on the charge.
Ruth Zoflinger of Sterling and Sterling High School sophomore fractured her right ankle when she slipped on ice near the high school. She was taken to Dr. Oo. A. Shong for treatment after the Wednesday noon accident.
The Church of Christ in Rittman marks its second anniversary with special services this Sunday. Rev. V. Goodale from Ohio will preach the morning sermon. Mary Ellen Conover will lead the Young People's service at 6:45 p.m., and La Gregory from Stow will deliver the evening message with the Stow choir singing. Basement improvements include new folding doors to create Sunday School rooms, and the kitchen has been enlarged. A welcome committee invites all pastors to attend.

The Rand Mothers Club raises about 300 dollars to buy uniforms for the city high school band, with two bands essential for the program. Roy Welling urged an 850 dollar donation to match the city band needs. District projects, including paving and sidewalk work, are approved and budgeted for the season.
