Rittman Opens New Waterworks Plant In Stage Test
The first municipal waterworks plant in Rittman goes into operation with a test run Tuesday. A 50 hp gas engine powers a pump moving four gallons per minute, and an auxiliary 50 hp electric motor drives a centrifugual pump for up to 200 gallons per minute. The Bessemer Gas Engine Company of Cleveland and C A Pierce are the contractors.

Prisoners Sentenced After Grand Jury Indictments
Prisoners confined in jail who were indicted by the grand jury appeared in court and pleaded. Harry Grimm Rittman 19 pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property and burglary and faced indeterminate Mansfield reformatory terms. Joseph Herman Rittman pleaded guilty to arson and received an indeterminate Mansfield sentence aged 25. Tom Carey from Rittman pleaded not guilty to assault with intent to ravish. Clifford Granee Rittman pleaded not guilty to burglary and larceny. Robert Mackey Rittman pleaded guilty to petit larceny and pickpocketing with sentencing deferred for further felony consideration. Barney Finch Sterling pleaded not guilty to shooting with intent to kill. Judges promised appointed attorneys for the poor defendants. John Egnes of Orrville, not indicted, was released. Prosecutor and sheriff prepared for further trials as arrangements for criminal cases were made.

Romminger Found Guilty In Beer License Case
Peter Romminger, previously convicted of disorderly house on Salt street, was found guilty in Mayor's court of selling beer without a license to J C Miller around January 17 1916. He was fined 100 dollars plus costs after a prior 200 fine was partially remitted. The case followed detective work by Constable Cox and reflected local wet territory shifts and enforcement efforts.

A natural gas regulator in a tile rear building of Smith’s barber shop in Sterling exploded Sunday night. The Medina Gas Fuel Company property burned as escaping gas ignited by a nearby flame. No injuries reported.

Jacob Overholt of River Styx died Wednesday morning of arteriosclerosis after a four week illness. He was 81 years and 11 months old. Funeral was Friday at the Mennonite church north of town. He was a brother of William Overholt of Wadsworth and survived by two sons Isaac Overholt of this place and Dan Overholt of Hinckley and a daughter Mrs Pratt of West Lebanon.
