Services Held For Curtis Farber 55
Curtis O. Farber of RD 1 Sterling died Friday morning after a long illness. He moved to Sterling 27 years ago as track foreman for the B and O Railroad, where he served 35 years. Surviving are his wife Charlotte, son Richard, daughter Donna Asche, his mother Nellie Farber Patterson, a brother Donald, and three grandchildren. Services were Monday at Sterling Evangelical United Brethren Church with burial at Rittman Cemetery. Gillman Haines Funeral Home handled arrangements.

PCA Increases Stock Dividend
Packaging Corporation of America announced a rise in its common stock dividend to 20 cents per share from 15 cents, with the regular 37½ cents per preferred share. George K. Skafic, 68, of Rittman RD 1, died Friday in Wadsworth Municipal Hospital after two months illness. Born in Yugoslavia, he lived in Wadsworth many years before moving to Rittman three years ago. He worked 33 years for Ohio Match Company and was a member of SS Peter and Paul Church in Doylestown and the Eagles Club in Wadsworth. He leaves wife Alice, son Melvin of Wadsworth, daughter Mrs Joseph Hartman of RD 1 Rittman, and three grandchildren. She plans to study elementary teaching at Ohio State University starting June.

No Damage From Fire At PCA
It was a cold night when 24 Ritt man volunteer firemen answered a midnight call at the Packaging Corporation of America plant. Paper dust and oil in the number three drier exhaust system caught fire. crews fought the blaze for three hours inside the pipes but no damage to equipment or building was reported. The fire was caused by a hot bearing.

Council Hears Lighting Proposals and Insurance Bids
The council met briefly to discuss lighting plans and safety as five street lights may be removed and three new ones erected. Two lights would be removed in the east Brenneman's Grocery parking lot and others near Elliot Street and First Brethren Church. two new lights were proposed on West-Sunset and Rittman Road. Costs to be studied with fluorescent options for the square. Also awarded Michigan Life and Nationwide Insurance contracts totaling 330.98 and 773.45 respectively. Agreed to work with the School Board to address parking around West Hill School to improve safety for students and curb road-blocking autos.
