A reader submits a resignation letter from a member of the Rittman Recreation Board. The author notes winter skating rink work, disputes with Water Works Superintendent Milford over using water to spray the rink, and expresses unwillingness to be intimidated. The letter is addressed to Mayor John W Baldwin and read at a Monday council meeting.
A long letter from Mrs B H of Rittman Ohio complains of hard water and dishpan hands. She urges Water Board accountability, public meetings, and improved service during wartime shortages. She hints at organizing local women’s clubs to press for change and remains anonymous.
Village council approved total appropriations of 39864 for the new year. Funds include general 5105, contingencies 2571, safety 5500, service 11870, water 16000, cemetery 2800, street maintenance 6000, and redemption 10018. A planning commission will be named at the next meeting to study a six year improvement plan. The park board reported rising costs and replacement needs for equipment. Park Superintendent John Rohrer resigned. Council approved repainting City Hall interiors and installing blinds. A new city truck and street light work were approved for Meadowvale and adjacent streets.
Twenty-five men listed for induction will leave Orrville on January 30 for service with the armed forces. Rittman High Indians topped Greensburg 29 to 19 on their home court Saturday night led by the starting five as substitutes added late spark. The Rittman reserves won 13 to 17 and coach George Allard used many bench players during the final period.

Funeral services were held at Milton Presbyterian Church for Dr E R Alexander 64 a German born nurse and wife of Dr Alexander who died after a two month bedfast period following heart attacks. Burial planned in Cleveland with nephew Rev Arthur Romig of Lima assisting. Survived by husband Major Randall Alexander son one grandson two brothers and a sister. Funeral home Ebert arranged service.
A proposal to create a small lake north of Rittman with a dam on the Medina county line was discussed before the Rotary club with Muskingum Conservancy District and Ohio Division of Conservation experts. Bryce Browning J S Gena Frank Crume and W S Windsor spoke on flood control and recreational value noting visits rose from one million in 1942 to 1.5 million in 1944 and urging ample parking at the ravine site.
Orrville Red Riders edged Rittman High Indians 25 13 in a Central Buckeye League game last Friday. Orrville hit only three two pointers and scored little in the first and third quarters while Hawkins Wenger and Bodager led Rittman scorers. The Orrville reserves beat the Rider reserves 20 12 to stay atop the league with four wins and no losses.
War Production Board orders nationwide brownout to save coal with February 1 effective date. Mearson Reserve Power Co and Akron Merchants Association coordinate curtailment of outdoor lighting. Local manager G H Steele informs merchants of the new rules allowing limited outdoor lighting for ads, displays, and safety, with wattage restrictions for certain signs.
Four dens with 16 boys aged nine to twelve meet at City Hall last Thursday to organize Cub Scouts in the Rutman Pack. Membership costs 60 cents. den chiefs and a den mother will be selected. Pack meetings are the second Monday each month at City Hall starting February 12. Lions Club sponsors the project with Willard Hilty and Weldon Hardgrove leading organizing efforts.
Residents of Rittman urged by the Ohio Boxboard Co class to place waste paper at the curb Saturday January 27 for collection. They note dwindling raw materials for packaging and shipping delays making every ton crucial to the war effort.
