Fire Destroys D.C. Site With Loss Estimated at 30,000
Merlan Steele of Sterling was exonerated in common pleas court in Wooster after Judge Walter J. Mougey directed a verdict acquitting Steele. The state failed to prove Steele accompanied Rasmon Cassser to the Neuffer home with theft intent. Gosser pleaded guilty to larceny and burglary, received probation and three years of suspended sentence.

Fire destroys Steiner Store after early morning blaze
Firefighters from three departments battled a two hour blaze that gutted the old Steiner Store in Sterling. Carl Steiner estimated losses at 3000 with parts insured. Investigators considered an elevator area fire origin amid questions about a nearby water tank explosion.
