Fire units assisted Doylestown at the C. W. Ball farm on Route 604 near Route 5 in Easton where a barn and nearby building were destroyed. All livestock except one cow and one horse were saved. A second call near midnight reported a furnace in a Square store basement overheating with no fire protection needed.
Eddie Perrénod a 26 year Maibach hardware employee in Sterling married Josephine Rhyne of Ashland in a Saturday ceremony in Ashland. They will reside in Ashland after Perrénod leaves the Maibach store. Sterling guests included Ruth Maibach and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Maibach and I. W. Maibach.
Mrs Earl Derhammer and daughters Pat and Sue stayed with Mrs W E Heiks. Pat flies to Oklahoma to enter college. Mr and Mrs Robert Hickin and Mr and Mrs C E Wilson return from a 10 day southern trip. Several relatives visited in Wooster including Bobby Hickin Barbara Hickin and Mr John Tilson. James Bruny recovers at home from a recent ice injury. Akron visitors including Ralph Johnson and son Dick and Charlie Heinson visited the Osbornes. Harvey Straits home from Wadsworth Hospital after a broken leg from a car incident. Bill Harmon hospitalized in Wadsworth after a Route 94 crash. L G DeVore visiting Nelsonville this week. Mrs B B Harrison stayed overnight with the H Button. Mrs J E Benek and Clyde Kindig attended the Aircraft Show in Cleveland. Clifford Graf of Cleveland visited. Ida Mae Adams and Mrs Frank Ianarelli of Wooster visited Fred Dearth stationed at Fort Knox. Williams Holway and two sons of Creston hosted at Herbert Adams. Don Yochheim Ashland and other friends shared Sunday dinner with Mr and Mrs C J Poe. first family reunion in five years.
The list notes sailors and soldiers discharged after varied periods of service. Merrill T. Neitzelt and Everett Emch released from Navy after 39 and 14 months. Keith A. Shew discharged from Fort Knox Kentucky after 4144 years with 6 months in Japan. Seaman Arthur B. Ortt of Seattle leaves after 1 year 3 days 9 months overseas. Pfc Ben Wenger from Crile Hospital discharged after 2 1 4 years with overseas service. awarded Bronze Star. Pfc James Ball and Pfc Edward Ball listed with addresses and Fort Knox dates.
The next meeting of the Friends of the Ritzmanial Library will be held on Wednesday January 30 at 8 30 p m in the library. All interested are welcome and public meetings are encouraged. Organizations or individuals may submit book requests at the meeting or leave them with Mrs Kick before then.
A daughter Victoria Lee born January 19 at Good Samaritan Hospital Zanesville Ohio to Mr and Mrs Raymond Grace. A son born January 18 at Wadsworth Hospital to Mr and Mrs Leon Keener (Donna Jean Geiser former). A son born January 19 at Wadsworth Hospital to Mr and Mrs Renaldo Smith (Mary Burger former). A daughter born January 22 at Wadsworth Hospital to Mr and Mrs James Dwyer.
S/Sgt Germain Chenal and his wife Miss Martha Noizet were wed on December 1. The couple, married in France, honeymooned in Annecy and visited Bar sur Aube with Germain’s war duties noted. Germain a 1941 Rittman High School graduate, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Chenal of Sterling Avenue.
Four Boy Scouts of Troop 405 were advanced in a court of review at the First Street school building Wednesday night. William Ritter Boyde Bodager and Richard Grant became first class Scouts Angelo Cardace was raised to second class. They were presented by Scoutmaster W. M. Phillips and examined by F. O. Kanehl and Ernest Harrison, Rotary club representatives, era by Joseph Wald and Basil Hardgrove, American Legion representatives. David Fredrick was present to assume duties as assistant troop Scoutmaster.
Donald Clark Peters, 32, died at Akron City Hospital from injuries after a crane accident in The Ohio Boxboard Co stock shed. He fell 45 feet and suffered a skull fracture and severe facial injuries. Peters, a former Army man, lived with his three children and widow Frances at Pennsylvania address. Funeral plans were set for Ft. Gay West Virginia with Ebert Funeral Home arranging.
Interest grows in a home for homeless boys proposed by Rev. C. E. Kerr of Smithville. Local leaders form a temporary committee led by Rev. Dwight B. Davidson and plan a February 4 meeting to organize a citywide committee to back Boys Village. Other communities will be invited to join as the effort begins in Rittman.
Mr. Robert Fisass recently discharged and formerly of Rittman visited in town on Monday. Mrs. Leonard Simon visits her parents in town. Mr. and Mrs. Simon and Mrs. Lillian Javit z of Stow leave tomorrow for Florida. Mrs. A. H. Thomas and Mrs. Leonard Simon spent yesterday in Cleveland. Mr. James Clarke, recently discharged, is a floor salesman for Montgomery Ward in Waco Texas.
G. E. Sheridan announces the opening of a new Men’s Shop on the Square last Saturday. He praises the warm public reception and notes a fresh shipment of boys clothing and sport shirts arriving on Wednesday to expand stock in the room beside Snyder’s Bakery.
Ken Osborne of the Federal Public Housing Authority notes approval of a 50 unit temporary veterans housing project in Rittman, following a crowded public meeting at City Hall. 40 veterans await Willow Brook housing. locals and visiting delegations discussed site leases and construction priorities.
Alfred Zook of Wooster R D a discharged serviceman and Goshen College graduate joins the grades 1 and 8 teaching staff this week in anticipation of two additional classrooms in the First Street building. Construction work is tentatively approved by the board education committee. Architect Florence of Akron expects working drawings to the state authorities in Columbus this weekend and work could start soon after. No date set for full return of pupils.
Rotary club hosted Attorney de Johnson of Wooster who shared Italy photos from his Army field hospital days. President Frank Gilbert named Dr E R Alexander to Friends of the Rittman Public Library and Tom Young to Boys Village committee. The club votes to allow controversial speakers with balanced hearings.
Lloyd M Price has been promoted to sergeant in the 232nd Military Police Company at APO 942 Bestmaster Seattle Washington. His new unit and mailing address are listed as Sgt Lloyd M Price 153-60338 232nd MP Co APO 942 Bestmaster Seattle WA.
