Manitos Troop Scout Meeting Reports Progress

The six week meeting notes progress with many tests passed and several scouts earning recognitions. Bud Hile John Steiner John Kucklin Russell Snyder Truman Dowd and others achieved second class status while William Franklin Breece Donald Heitka and Howard Dickerson will receive tenderfoot badges. An Investiture service is planned for Monday January 23 at the scout hall with public invitation. A Senior Court of Honor is scheduled for Friday January 20 in Akron.

Ohio sacred music movement promotes district festifods

The Ohio Council of Sacred Music announces a state wide movement to elevate sacred music in Protestant churches. Eight districts of eleven counties each will hold county and district festifods with a single contest number per evening. County directors are forming county organizations and state contests occur in sequence through February April and June.

Mrs Kate Krout and F Niles hosted a six o'clock dinner at the Niles home Tuesday evening for a joint birthday observance. This marked the 22nd annual coincidence, a custom started in 1913 after the Niles moved to Rittman.

The Rittman U. B. Church choir under Ora Spade directed a fine cantata at the Sterling U. B. church on Sunday evening January 15. The church was well filled. Soloists included Mrs Clayton Hoover Mrs Leonard Overs Mrs H Roserberger J H Elsher and Mrs D R Nilea.

Thirteenth anniversary program condemns repeal of Prohibition

A wooded church program features special solos and readings by the United-Brethren Sunday School orchestra. A resolution urges U S Senators and Congress to oppose any action to nullify repeal or modification of the Eighteenth Amendment and the Volstead Act, calling for enforcement funding and public education in law observance.

Aged resident dies after long illness in Sterling

Peter Steven Kissinger aged 84 died at his home in Sterling Tuesday afternoon after a several month illness. He lived in the community 46 years and is survived by his wife Martha, a sister Mrs A A Eby Burbank, and several grandchildren. Services will be Friday at 2 in the Wartzlor Funeral chapel Itman and 2:36 at the Brethren church Sterling with Rev M W Rafeld in charge. Interment in Maple Mound cemetery Savile. Friends may view the remains at the chapel.

Woman Undergoes Operation for Tumor Removal

Viall, making her theme in Sterling, was taken Friday to Wooster City hospital for tumor removal. Her condition is reported as favorable.

Father of Mrs Bodager Dies at Home in Sardis Ohio

John Hubacher aged 86 died at his Sardis home Sunday night. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon. He is survived by his wife and a daughter Mrs Bodager at home and a son John of Creston. Mrs Bodager remained in Sardis for several days.

Legion Meeting Sees 116 Attend Shreve Event

Twelve members of Howard A. Ball Post post attended in Shreve on January 11. State Commander Patterson spoke after a dinner served by the Shreve Ladies Auxiliary. One hundred sixteen members plus city officials attended. Patterson urged Buy American amid national fiscal policy and tax debates. High Wind Knocks Out Power in Sterling Area

A violent windstorm Thursday and Thursday night toppled a high tension line between Sterling and Seville, plunging Rittman into darkness for most of the night. The outage interrupted services as crews worked to restore power and assess damage.

Auto crash near Canaan injures three

Three men Thromon Henderson Bart Hox and Walter Ponpard were injured in a vehicle crash west of Canaan on Thursday afternoon. They were taken to Kinney and Smith hospitals in Wooster for treatment. Honiaraun Fox suffered a fractured skull and other injuries while Harken Chis gon Peppard sustained a fractured collar bone and scalp wounds. The men could not describe the accident.

The well known physician Dr H A Schollenberger died after a lengthy local practice dating to 1902. Interment at Crown Hill cemetery, Orrville, with services at the Lutheran church.

Miss Sarah Noyed of Seville Dies After Illness

Miss Sarah Noyed died at her Seville home Monday after weeks of infirmities due to old age. A native of Seville she lived as a missionary in China for many years. Survived by sisters Emily Mary Clara. Funeral services were held at her home Wednesday at two o clock with Rev EC Roney officiating. Interment followed at Seville Cemetery.
