The article explains a new school bank system in Rittman sponsored by the Rittman Savings Bank. It will teach thrift and regular small savings, with monthly deposits by each classroom published, and at no cost to public schools.
Doylestown canceled their Friday night basketball game at the last moment due to transportation difficulties. Coach Ward and a player drove toward Rittman to scout, but the trip proved impractical for the team after school Friday.
A large delegation of milk producers gathered Monday at the K of P Hall in Rittman for the annual meeting. Officers and auditing committees were elected and reports from district chairmen were reviewed. Secretary Beary and Treasurer Beyler were praised for bookkeeping.
A local proposal discusses erecting a building in the park to house a fire truck and other uses. The idea aims to improve park utility, attract visitors, and benefit the community with a covered hall for gatherings and dining.
At the K of P hall on Wednesday the Rittman Automobile Club conducted regular business and elected 15 directors for one year. President Hiers announced tellers L L Lance and others who counted votes. Rittman Grange held a regular meeting Friday night January 1. Officers were elected and installed by B. McConnell assisted by E. McConnell, E. Beyler and Charley Wald with Mrs. G. G. Gearham at the piano. A social hour followed with candy and treats from Mrs. Charles Walger and Ester Anderson. The lecture included a recitation Needles and Pins by Mrs. BR. McConnell, and juvenile activities with a password and attendance appeal. Next program January 2 features readings, books for children by Misa Mida Steele, and magazines for the home by Mrs. Avm. Kanengoiser.
Auditor William Haller compiles a list of township trustees and clerks who took office this year. Milton Township’s clerk remains W Bechtel, reelected and long serving. Trustees for two years are George Moyer, E B McConnell, and Edward H Lance. the first two near town, Lance from Sterling. All are successful farmers and expected to serve satisfactorily.
The Minneapolis Tribune quips about Methusela eating freely with no worries about calories, noting he lived over nine hundred years. In Wooster, the Mason's Basketball Team beat the Sterling A. C's 29 to 27 in a fast game at Ster ne ne i ling on Friday evening.
Ohio Theatre in Cleveland presents the comedy musical Helen of Troy from New York with the original cast headed by Queenie Smith Tom Lewis Helen Lawrence Clyde Huntwell and Stella Hoban. Music by Harry Ruby with lyrics by Bert Kalmar the show draws crowds according to local notes.
The W C T U holds a Victory Meeting next Sunday afternoon at 2:00 at the U B Church. Mrs Frances Fuller will deliver the address with Mrs Watz as president.
The Indies of St Anne Church plan a bake sale at Ruckel’s Cash Grocery next Saturday January 18. Proceeds support church activities and local missions. The event invites friends and families to enjoy homemade treats.
Wittitha Smith died of apoplexy last Saturday evening in a Sterling barber shop while being shaved. He was about 69, well known in the community, with many acquaintances in Sterling. He leaves a wife and daughter and had long served as Justice of the Peace in town.
Children host a noon birthday dinner for Andrew J Miller at his North Hirst Street home on January 13 celebrating his 75th year. Born in Holmes County January 1 1849, Miller remains active at local mill work and has received many gifts from family including Boyd Miller Melvin Holmes and Charles Baker families.
A. D. Steele of Sterling Ohio, visiting Bustis Park Geol, won a silk fishing map for catching the largest bass in the December Lake Region contest. His nephew aided with a 12 1 2 pound flapping bass, presented to George A. Pierce for mounting as an exhibition at the Lake Region office. The contest continues for the next two weeks in Wooster ven Record.
W R Shook lumberman attended the annual dinner of the lumber men of this district at Wooster Friday evening. The gathering, held in the Parish House, featured an illustrated forestry lecture from the Experimental Station forestry department and solos by Mrs Auralia Smyth Pope. A large attendance and an interesting meeting marked the event.
The press office warns of dwindling dictionary supply and urges quick on account purchase. A four dollar dictionary is offered for 98 cents due to small profit handling and consignment terms. After this stock sells out, no more dictionaries will be available for some time.
