An authoritative birth report confirms Virgil Cyrus and his wife are parents to a baby boy born Tuesday at Wadsworth Hospital weighing 9 pounds 3 ounces. The newborn joins siblings and the family residence is listed as Ohio. The event is noted as part of a local contest with prizes.
Local clubs plan gatherings in early January. Merry Mixers-Club meet at Mrs Edmus home 32 State St January 5. Mid Presbyterian Ladies Auxiliary holds January 6 luncheon and officer installation at church parlors. Church of Christ monthly meeting January 6 at 1 30 PM. First M E Church Ladies Aid event January 1 evening hosted by Mrs Foster Baker and Miss Dora Ethel Cummings.
An organizational meeting for a photography club will be held at Rec Hall on Wednesday, January 12, announced by Mrs. Kiam Frey, local recreation director. Membership is open to community members interested in photography. Glens Perky, local photographer, will address the group.
R and Mrs Leroy Berger of Day town welcome a boy born December 29. R and Mrs Pearley Robinson of Ittman greet a girl born December 3. Mr and Mrs Lewis Wagner of Doylestown report a girl born December 30.

At the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day in Pasadena California Mr and Mrs Dominic Calabria with children Mary Jo Cynthia and Thomas watched Ronnie Calabria son of the Calabrias play right half for the Southern California team in the Foss Bowl.
Four men from Summit County have confessed to the Ney Sth armed robbery of the W L Good sales barn in Creston. They are held in Summit County jail in Akron and include three from Barberton and one from Louisville. Their cases go before the Grand Jury.
James McNamee announces Sinclair Valentine Co consolidates Cleveland and Rittman ink operations. Cleveland plant closed, machinery moved to enlarged quarters on Industrial St with complete install expected in two months. Rittman plant, serving northern Ohio, employs 12 now with planned staff growth. firm operates 35 similar plants nationwide.
Eunice Beydler a Norwayne High senior won the gold medal at the Prince of Peace oratory contest in Youngstown. She will travel to Columbus on January 17 for the semi finals with a possible $200 prize and a four year scholarship if she advances to finals. Also competing was Virginia Wenger of Rittman High.
U S Navy seaman first class Thomas Sehaad of Baltimore arrived at his parents home after a Mediterranean cruise aboard the Monongahela. He left France September 17 and reached Baltimore October 25, receiving a December 29 leave for an indefinite period. He completed a 16 week course at Norfolk Naval School learning Morse code radio teletype and photo facsimile operations before being sent to Italy last June to rejoin shipmates.
Pfc Roy E Resecker, whose sister Mrs John W Bright resides Route 1 Rittman, serves with the 7th Infantry Division in Korea. The Bayonet Division continues a wide training program with realistic field problems and maneuvers. Resecker joined the Army in June 1954 and previously served with the 3rd Infantry Division's 65th Infantry Regiment as an aidman in Medical Company of the 17th Infantry Regiment.
Edwin Reynolds 81 a well known Doylestown businessman died at his son’s home after a six week illness His wife Elma died October 26 Reynolds owned Reynolds Roofing and Spouting Co He was a native of Navare and a member of Zion Lutheran Church Burial was in Hill Cemetery Rev David Tate officiated at the services He is survived by his son Russell a sister Mrs B W Monroe and four grandchildren
The Pribregovich family, long separated since 1941, arrives in Ohio after escaping Yugoslavia. George, a former carpenter and farmer, endured four years as a POW in Germany. His wife Ljubica and son Dushan join him as displaced persons, building a home on Front Street and beginning to learn English while thanking neighbors for support.
Curtis Robinson and Abraham Muhawi of Jordan spent Christmas with the Robinson family. Muhawi, living about 15 miles from Bethlehem, spoke at the First Church of Christ on Jordanian customs, habits, and native dress. He studies electrical engineering on a Baldwin Wallace scholarship.
Miss Regina Bachman returns to Springfield for studies at Wittenburg College. Lois Wright and Jim Hilty resume at Ohio Northern University. Gerald Whims and Bill Duckworth continue business administration at Ashland College. Carolyn Wald to Baldwin Wallace. Bob Burnett back to Green Castle to study at the University. Other names include Frank Yoder, Cheryl and Kenneth Games, Paul Bodager, Gary Black, Richard Grant, Ed Rolph, Jack Williams, Jim Baldwin, Joel Hawes.

Harold Lee 21 of Rittiman RD died when his car overturned on Rt 224 about 3 am New Year’s Day near LeRoy and Seville. His wife Ruth and two children survived, with parents Harvey and [name unclear] Lee of Tennessee and brother Richard Stanley of Spencer. Police said high speed may have been a factor. Services were held Tuesday at Seville, burial at Spencer.
The State Highway Department recently removed the most frequently hit section of fence along Easton’s crash curve in an effort to reduce injuries. In Marshallville Mrs Anna Metz renewed her subscription to the Rittman Press, sending $2.50 for another year. Daley's Furniture and Wenger’s Furniture staff attend a Chicago showing. Ora Lance of Morton Salt reports sighting a flying saucer near a cistern. the craft moved away after about 14 minutes.
Norma Jean Beery won the Christmas issue contest for identifying Kreider farm. Joe Zollinger of Rittman RD and Douglas Mougey of Third St in Rittman won the past week’s contest by correctly naming the Joe Grabow farm near Sterling. Winners received pairs of theatre stickers for the Diana Theatre, which will show first run films starting Sunday January 9.
The Planning Commission and Rittman Council invite builders and developers to review proposed minimum requirements for real estate projects. They will discuss and consider changes at a joint meeting later this month. Interested parties may contact Charles Rohrer, head of the planning commission, for details.
A public meeting will discuss horror and crime comics in Rittman. The session is set for Tuesday January 7 at 7 30 PM in the Recreation Hall under the Three Arts Club sponsorship. Club representatives and interested organizations are invited to attend as part of a statewide Ohio Federation of Women's Clubs project.
A Brethren Church hosts a missionary conference January 2 through 9 featuring Rev Harold Etling and Rev Jake Kleiver with sessions for Sunday schools and church workers. Speakers include Catherine Marshall and Ethel National Sunday School Board director, with a district youth rally set for Saturday January 8.
Rehearsals begin Sunday January 9 at 8 pm in Rutran high school study hall for a PTA Minstrel Show directed by Mrs. Robert Davis. The show debuts Thursday evening February 24. Mrs. Russell Lewis invites anyone who can sing or has talent to join, urging all ages to attend and help ensure a big local talent event.
Guy Baker was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and fined 100 dollars plus costs with 3 days in jail. Russell Zwercher faced reckless driving charges, fined 25 dollars plus costs, with a 15 day jail term suspended. Both cases appeared before Justice of the Peace Hurkes.
Miss Dixie Hardgrove was elected president of the Rittman Jr Achievers Association and named a delegate to the Mid-West Achievers Conference held in Teetectt Michigan. She also became one of Barberton’s three JA vice presidents while attending three local companies and gained insights on youth enterprise. Other officers include Ronnie Ridgeway as vice president Virginia Snyder as secretary and Jim Zimmerman as team leader.
