The contest for Ritt distinguished citizen is to be held Friday. Bodager secretary of the Chamber of Commerce notes Myron T. is judge of the Probate Court and Maibach of Sterling serves as secretary of the Chamber of Commerce.
William Troxell reports spotting a robin in his father’s yard on Astrial Street as the year begins. The New Year party at the American Legion Hall ends with Dee Trogdon missing his topcoat and finding gloves left in the coat. A reflective, locally toned column closes with aphorisms about friendship and progress.
Russell W. Frey presents Behind the Iron Curtain with a 7:30 p.m. 8:15 p.m. and 9 p.m. sequence next Monday. The talks and slide sets cover 120 original Russian life slides, plus 150 Russian slides and Swiss and Norwegian images. Twenty six groups have joined or scheduled talks, including Wayne County farmers and various clubs across Wooster, Rittman, Massillon, and St Clairsville.
A T mobile X ray unit will be in Rittman on January 14 in front of the om on Main Street. It will operate from 9:30 to 1:30 and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. for the public. The notice references Frank Yoder and his family and mentions travel to California and other names.
Fires destroyed the home of Mike Richards on County Road 99 in Guilford Township. Lester Harthong, a farmhand, and his family were affected. Fire Chief Everett Winkler blamed overheated furnace and road conditions. Trogdon’s Market on E Ohio Ave suffered a meat department fire with $7500 damage, quickly contained as fire crews prevented looting.

Frank Shannon charged with assault and battery received 15 fine and costs plus two weeks jail but sentence suspended and one year probation. Paul Burkhart and John Trent fined 15 and costs for intoxication and fighting. Stephen Tomassetti fined 10 and costs for reckless driving with additional stop sign fine. James McCune, Delmar Collins, Jamies Cox fined for assault and reckless driving. Highway patrol.
Rollin D. Shook owner of Shook Lumber Co. of Apple Creek dies at home after a long illness. Born in Rittman he taught in Milton Township before entering the lumber business. Survived by Florence Elizabeth Hile wife, daughter Deltha Fisher and son Weldon of Wooster, two grandchildren John R Fisher and Betty Kaye Fisher, one great granddaughter, and brother William of Moscow Idaho. Funeral services were held Thursday at the Re formed Church in Apple Creek with burial in Apple Creek Cemetery.
Residents watching the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day spotted former Rittman high school band director Frederick Ebbs. Ebbs now directs the University of Iowa band, which numbers 196 members, a program once led by him from 1937 to 1941.
Funeral services for Diamond Eggeman 54 will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Ev United Brethren Church in Rittman after dying Tuesday at Wadsworth Municipal Hospital from a lingering illness. He was a Morton Salt Co. employee, a 40 year resident of the Rittman Wadsworth area. Surviving are his wife Marie, three sons James Edward and William of Wadsworth, four daughters Phyllis Flaherty Gwendolyn Lance Patricia and Constance of Wadsworth, four grandchildren and four brothers. Four Wadsworth juveniles face Myron Brenneman court this week charged with stealing light bulbs from Christmas decorations at homes in Rittman.

A young businessman called Miller recounts the summer day two years ago when his car struck and killed a little girl. He describes panic, detachment, and lifelong fear of driving, as authorities labeled the crash an accident and his guilt remains with him.
Robert West elected president of the Rittman School Board at the annual meeting with Melvin Goffinet as vice president and Mrs J. J. Williams as clerk treasurer seeking a raise to 3500. The board approved a school insurance plan, reviewed names for a new grade school, and adopted a 297 830 budget with changes.
Rittman Indians travel to Loudonville Friday and host Middlebrand from Stark Saturday in the new year. Coach Ashton Hall plans to start Karl Benchoff Everett Beery Tiny Whims John Miracle and either Jim Lambert or Kenny Schaub. Terry Whims becomes eligible for the rest of the season and will bolster play from the front. Hall cites poor rebounding and limited offensive opportunities as the main reasons for a 1 4 record.
The Ladies Auxiliary of the Milton Presbyterian Church holds the year’s first meeting at the church on Thursday January 10 at 12 noon. Lunch tickets are $1 at the door. New officers will be installed. Hostesses include Mrs B P Hardgrove Mrs C G Milford Mrs Ed Bernhardt and Mrs Joseph Hardiman.
Bert Wallace 53 of 368 North Seneca Street died Friday evening at Wadsworth Municipal Hospital after a heart attack. Born in Clifford Kentucky he lived in Rittman for 35 years and worked 32 years for Ohio Boxboard Company. He is survived by his wife Minnie six sons Eugene Robert Bert Jr George Joseph Harold eight grandchildren and a sister Fannie Porter. Burial was in Rittman Cemetery with Rev. Charles Turner officiating.
Mr. and Mrs. Lupe of 1651 2 S Main St announce the engagement of Patty Lou to Donal of Bealsville. The couple plan a future together as a Rittman High School graduate pursues boxboard work.
