The Howard A Bair Post American Legion schedules a New Year's Eve party at the Legion home for veterans and friends with music dancing entertainment and refreshments from 9 pm to midnight. The event will also dedicate the newly finished recreation room.
Central Buckeye League standings show Rittman leading both varsity and reserve leagues with three victories in three weeks. The 1947 season ends with upbeat prospects as teams await competition after vacations.
A son named John Pyam was born to Mr and Mrs Pyam Williams of Montville Connecticut on Thursday December 1. A daughter Susan weighing 7 pounds 8 ounces was born to Mr and Mrs Harold F Parks of Warren Rhode Island on Sunday December 21. Mrs Parks prior name Mary Dubatowka was a former teacher at Rittman High School.
In Wooster common pleas court last week Marguerite Borishof sued Yovan L Borishc man for divorce. Attorney C. E. represented the plaintiff.
Plans for a circle fox hunt on New Years Day were made by a group of sportsmen at a town meeting Monday evening. The hunt will cover east of Route 94 and south of Route 60, with participants meeting at Rittman square at 1 p.m. Fort Captains wearing red armbands will supervise sections along the route. Women and children are invited, and any foxes caught will be auctioned to benefit the Bedste Soutanes Association. Walter Frye and county game protector Bible helped organize the event.
Mrs. Charles Trent and Mrs. Earl Killough led an all day family get together on Sunday with guests including Roy Trent and son Larry Edward Ball Delane Bowman Vernon Thompson Sam Welch Jonah Adkins of Wayne West Virginia Jack Kilough Dale Boinchoff and Robert Bodager who plans to study at Northwestern University in Evanston Illinois.
A financial review by the Rittman High School Athletic Association shows a net profit of 8.27 from the 1947 football season. Expenditures totaled 3101.65 with items including equipment, field lighting, and other incidentals. outstanding football bills list lights at 917.21.
Jesse E Vallandingham 55 a jeweler in Rittman for 21 years died Monday noon at his Grenbrier avenue home after a lunch time heart attack. He served in World War I and is survived by his wife Matilda a daughter a brother and two sisters. Funeral arrangements set for Wednesday at 2 30 from Ebert Home with burial in Rittman cemetery. American Legion and VFW posts to pallbear.
Mrs Stella Steele 69 widow of Harry L Steele died Wednesday morning December 24 at her home on N Senecast She had lived in Rittman over 35 years Survived by son Alden R Akron brother Or Zook Creston sister Mrs Mattie Rook Rittman grandson Lester A Rittman and three great grandchildren Funeral held Saturday at Ebert funeral home with Rev L W Marvin First Brethren Church officiating Burial in Creston Cemetery
Jake Troxel and Mrs. Rose Oxen rider with son Glenn and Miss Mary Lou Baird rode to Cincinnati last Friday. On the return trip they were joined by Mrs. Charles Herman and her sons Terry and Roger and Miss June Yates. Mrs. Herman plans a visit with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Jake Troxel of Rittman.
