Xmas Mail Sets Record At Post Office
The 1947 Christmas season set a post office record with mail handled about 25 percent above last year. About 110000 life stamps sold this month and 25000 more letters processed than before. 4000 to 5000 parcels received. Two extra workers joined during the rush. rural carrier Henry Long fell ill and could not work. Mail was delivered at least twice daily in Rittman. the post office closes Wednesday afternoon and all morning mail will be delivered along with gift parcels and special-delivery mail on Christmas day.

New Phone Equipment Aids Rittman Service Boost
Ohio Central Telephone Corp reports a recent installation in Rittman that has nearly doubled available facilities. A new switchboard is active, providing nine lines to Wooster and three to Sterling, with more long distance lines planned. Several new local lines are strung including a rural line west of Bauman orchard and a Route 94 to the Doylestown area. Another line to E Sunset near Shinersbach will open soon. Four full time operators are on duty daily.
