Indians Defeat Orrville 44 18 in Friday Night Play

The Rittman High Indians clinched a share of the Central Buckeye League by beating Orrville 44 to 18 on their floor. Ramsier led with 13 points while Mills had six for Orrville. The win gave Rittman a 5 1 league record and the reserves won 18 13 in a listless preliminary.

Doylestown Clinches Class B Crown Over Sterling 56 24

Doylestown captured the Wayne County class B title with a 56 to 24 win over Sterling. Steller scored 24 points to lead the Chippewas as they posted a 43 percent shooting night. The victory marked Doylestown’s 20th win in 22 games this season and earned them a sectional berth at Ashland.

1940 Automobile Plates Go On Sale Friday

1940 license tags available at M. Fredrick deputy registrar office starting Friday March 1 with use allowed from March 10. Rittman UV series 51 to 99 and VW series 801 to 999. Plates feature silver numerals on blue. Office hours extended to late March and March 25 to April 3 stay open evenings until 8:30.

Council Accepts Plat of Extension Of Second Street

Spade Foersther Village council met at City Hall with Mayor John Baldwin presiding and approved Ordinance No 1524 opening the Second Street extension from North Street to the corporation line. The meeting reviewed stop sign repainting, opening of Walnut at both ends cost estimates, and claims for work on the PWA paving project. Officials considered pay for M Spade and Fred Foerstner, salaries for clerk of the board and water superintendent, and sewer line expenses for Shinersburg. A proposal for two new tractor drawn street graders was referred to the street committee.

Indians to meet Doylestown in Ashland semi finals

The Rittman High Indians face Doylestown Friday in the sectional class B semifinal at Ashland aiming to reach the district tournament at Kent. Doylestown is Wayne County champion with height and scoring punch led by Dannemiller Herwick and Stetler.

Will Celebrate Golden Wedding Anniversary Wednesday

Mr and Mrs Jacob Schorle of Milton township will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on Wednesday March 6. The couple, born in 1867, have lived near Rittman for 45 years and raised 11 children, eight of whom survive. Their family includes Walter Otto Martha Maurer Fannie Muller Howard Wallace Edith and Dorothy Schorle. Relatives are invited to visit their home during the day.

Ohio Boxboard designs first paper carton for process cheese

The Ohio Boxboard Co in cooperation with Shefford Cheese Co and Alpha Cheese Co has devised a three piece paper carton to replace wooden boxes for process cheese. The sleeve forms the brick, the cover and bottom hold it, and a paper bag contains molten cheese sealed inside. The design ensures the manufacturer’s face is visible, enables easy opening, and withstands automatic filling while delivering better merchandising appeal and cleaner delivery to retailers.

Rittman Edges Coventry In OT Loss To Indians Season Finale

In a tight overtime finish at Coventry, Rittman fell 32-31 as Coventry's Preverice scored 14 including the OT basket. Ramster added a late free throw while Rittman struggled from the floor and trailed 17-9 after the first quarter before tying 19-19 at halftime. Superior free throw shooting kept Rittman competitive through the second half.

Indians Dominate Perrysville in Ashland Sectional Opener

Rittman Indians rolled to a 60 26 victory over Perrysville in the Thai round at Ashland. Ike Ramsier led with 20 points and Bob Simonton added 15 as Rittman pulled away after a 6 6 start. Eight players scored for the Indians as they moved toward the semis while Perrysville’s Byers led the losers with nine. Sterling rallied to 95 30 loss to Roylestown in the night’s other game. Doylestown and Rittman set to meet in the Friday semi final. Loudonville reached the semis with a 93 14 win over Sullivan.

Mrs. Fred Snyder Services Held in Rittman

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Fred Snyder 68 a Rittman pioneer died Friday night at her apartment on Main Street Roy E B Hendrickson officiated burial in Rittman cemetery pallbearers were six nephews. Mrs Snyder daughter of Abraham and Caroline Fixler born January 6 1872 spent life in the area member Milton Presbyterian church pioneer member of W B A. Surviving brothers Harvey William and Charles Pixler sisters Hettle Kunkler and one sister-in-law and five grandsons. Her husband Fred W Snyder preceded her in death April 9 1920.

Laymen's League to Host Galehouse Talk on Soil Conservation

D W Galehouse, self preservation agent for Ohio, will speak on Conservation of Our Greatest National Asset the Soil at a Laymen's League meeting in Rittman with supper at 6 30 p m. An offering will be taken to pay expenses as there are no advance tickets. Galehouse will show motion pictures and a visiting quartet will provide special music.

Funeral services held Wednesday for Marshallville woman

Funeral services for Cathy erline Nolt 5 Marshallville were held Wednesday at the Evangelical church in Marshallville. Burial followed in Maple Grove cemetery. Survivors include her husband Ben Nolt a son Johnny Wicgt and children and a brother John Staytfer 98 of Barbertonz.
