Minstrel Show Costumes Credited to Audrey Youmans

Audrey Youmans leads PTA minstrel show costume work with cerise and other fabrics. A Trap Hag en School trained seamstress from Maplewood New Jersey, she moved to Rittman and joined the show five years ago, later contributing to a Welcome Wagon decorating committee. She features a family including Barry 11 Lori 9 and husband Harold.

Four Year Old Cheryl Adams in Critical Condition After Open Heart Surgery

Cheryl Adams, four, daughter of Glen and [unreadable] Adams, remains in critical condition at Akron Children's Hospital with complications and pneumonia after open heart surgery. Colleen O’Neal, age 14, shows improvement after brain surgery and vision loss, celebrating a birthday with cards from friends and a Lennon Sisters song request. Bobby Heames, still unconscious after an October truck crash, shows slight improvement moving to a private room for watchful nursing care. Tommy Dysinger will wear a cast for two more weeks after a sledding accident. his teacher Mrs Ruth Leaman visited with first graders to boost his spirits.

Local student elected to spend day with educators

Barbara Hauenstein of Rittman senior high school was elected to the boards seat by the Federalist party in Youth in Government elections. She will visit Wayne County schools with four peers, meet county superintendent John Lea, and spend a day observing education duties in Orrville on March 4. John Heinz and Keith Haines, Rittman seniors named state representatives, will meet Governor Rhodes in Columbus and tour the state house, senate, and Supreme Court, sharing a dinner with five lawmakers.

Route 94 Salt Street Access Faces $250000 Toll

County Engineer Walter Metzler outlined a $250000 cost to the Salt Street route access for Route 94, with the county about $45000, township $125000, and city the rest. The plan includes a Salt Street interchange to handle trucks for Packaging Corporation and Morton Salt, and a possible saline underpass but safety concerns were raised. A June meeting will reassess interchanges and financing, with federal aid discussed as a potential half-share option.

Council To Meet With Hospital Group March I1

Rittman City Council will discuss the Rittman Wadsworth Hospital Steering Committee plan for a 100 bed non profit hospital within five years. Milton Township Trustees join to review site location and financing for a $2 million facility with a Q A period for citizens. Glenin Parman chairs the committee with Avery Kinch and Mrs Lindsey Williams on planning teams.

Ann Robinson Chosen as Buckeye Girls State Candidate

Ann Elizabeth Robinson and Shirley Felix named as delegates to Buckeye Girls State at Capitol University Calumbus from June 15 to 23. Selection recognizes high scholarship, courage, self reliance, and willingness to assume responsibility, with Mrs. Shirley Felix as alternate. Both juniors at Rittman High School.

Bloodmobile aims to recruit 200 donors in Rittman drive

Bloodmobile visits Rittman on Friday March 8 from 10 am to 4 pm as volunteers strive to reach a 200 donor quota. Mrs Martha Blatter Irene Blatter lead recruitment with PCA Feb 22 open, while Mrs Bessie Gillman Ed Taylor and others organize canteen registration and transportation. Outlying areas join Creston Doylestown and Sterling teams with Typists Ray Varisco and Gillman assisting.

Death of Frank DiGilio Father of Mrs Miller

Frank DiGilio father of Mrs Fred L Miller formerly of Rittman died February 11 after an extended illness. Survivors include grandsons Fred L Miller and William Henry Miller. The Miller family now resides at 333 East Philadelphia Street in Philadelphia.

Bank opens Friday to serve merchants and workers

The Rittman Savings Bank will stay open this Friday while many area banks close for George Washington's birthday observance. Officials say they remain open to accommodate merchants and industrial workers.

Brenneman backs youth council for Ohio

Juvenile Court Judge Myron T. Brenneman urged creation of a 12 member Ohio Youth Commission with four judges four educators and four social workers. He said the plan would save taxpayers millions and cut juvenile delinquency. PTA talks covered Founders Day origin and kindergarten roundup planning. Scholarships of 200 dollars at Rittman High School will be renewed for another year.

Mrs Morris Dies After Long Illness in Wooster

Mrs Zenie Morris 70 of Cleveland Road Wooster died Friday at Horn Nursing Home after a long illness. Born in Wayne County in 1892 to Henry and Aliza Miller Daugherty she is survived by husband Leroy two sons William in Germany and Stanley in Madisonburg 14 grandchildren 10 great grandchildren a sister and two brothers. Private services were held in Wooster with Rev Charles Crabtree officiating Burial at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. Tickets on sale for PTA Minstrel Show March 14 15 16. A nominating committee will present a slate of officers at the next meeting. A questionnaire will be circulated on a 10 week ballroom dancing course for seventh and eighth graders pending parent support. Rittman High School Choralettes sang a musical program. refreshments served by Mrs John Breece and Mrs Wenger.

Rittman Library to Close Friday February 22

The Rittman Public Library will close all day Friday February 22 in observance of Washington's Birthday. It will reopen Saturday February 23 from 1 to 3 p.m. Librarian Mrs Kathleen Hilliard announced the schedule.

Burglars Hit Ann's Restaurant in Rittman

Police investigate a break-in at Ann's Restaurant on East Ohio Avenue. Patrolman Charmichael found doors broken open at 1 am Monday and entry gained by screwdriver. Damaged were a cigarette machine two juke boxes and a bowling machine. Cash taken from the register and machines undetermined. Fingerprints taken by state police.
