Blood Donors Urgently Needed At Bloodmobile Event

Urgent call for new blood donors as illness and flu may reduce supplies. Bloodmobile appears in Rittman on Friday March 8 at American Legion Hall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Committee led by Mrs Harold Widmer lists a large recruiting team and supportive volunteers from local firms and churches. Quota is 125 pints, with about 200 donors expected, and transportation arrangements are provided. Easter Seals drive features Doris Napier and Richard Redinger as local ambassadors representing Wayne County services and beneficiaries.

Local Man Serves on College Board in Ohio

Ivan King of 99 North Fifth Street Rittman is among 660 Ohioans serving on college boards through the Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges. King sits on Findlay College’s board. The foundation notes 297 trustees hail from other states District of Columbia or Puerto Rico. Dr Glenn L Clayton of Ashland College says trustees donate time and money to strengthen Ohio colleges. He cites corporate gifts as a path to greater strength. in 1962 the foundation was halfway to its annual goal with gifts totaling over 300 million dollars distributed to two schools. Political subdivision notes include a crackdown on delinquent water bills and overtime parking along South Main Street. City manager Charles Manne reports about 300 residents delinquent, with totals near 1056 dollars. The council urges immediate shut-off policy and owner accountability when properties are delinquent. Meade Hardware owner Robert Meade urges stricter two-hour parking enforcement in front of his store. Council considers leasing land at Salt Street and South Main for a parking lot and towed violators. James Witzberger appointed to Council, replacing Edward Bernhardt, to chair utilities. Neil Milford to head finance. Hospital survey committee will report March 11 on plans for a new Attan-Wadsworth area hospital. City notes winter salt expenditure of 91962 dollars this season, up from 837 dollars last winter.

Sharon Steiner Named Delegate to Girls State

Rittman high school junior Sharon Steiner was chosen by the Lions Club as their representative to Buckett Girl's State at Capital University in Columbus June 15 to 23. Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Steiner she is active in National Honor Society Spanish Club Meth-Glub Student Council and band. Alternate Janie Pile also selected.

Former Merchant Killed in Columbus Auto Crash

Leon Davidson 51, a former Rittman merchant, died in Columbus after a broadside collision with an oncoming car. He left Rittman in 1951 to run a Columbus area store and was a Mason and past patron of the Eastern Star. Survived by wife Dorothy, daughter Mrs Ed Zorn of San Juan Puerto Rico, and two grandchildren. Burial was in Columbus.

Mrs. Emma Holm 91 Succumbs in Marshallville

Services were held today for Mrs Emma Holm of Marshallville age 91 who died Tuesday at Orrville Dunlap Hospital after a long illness. She had lived in Marshallville all her life. Surviving are two daughters Vera Werntz and Edna Guy 11 grandchildren 22 great grandchildren 15 great great grandchildren a brother Ervin Crites and a sister Laura Mathie. Burial was at St Michael's Cemetery Marshallville Rev Al ta Knoil officiated.

Minstrel Show Stars Shine in Nine Annual Event Night

Delta Club elects new officers and hosts fundraiser

Mrs Clyde McCray chaired a meeting of the Delta Club where members elected new officers led by president Mrs Richard Gillane and secretary Mrs John Clifton. Plans include a film showing at Rittman High on April 27 for a Girl Scout troop and a Legislation Day trip to Prospect on March 12. The group sells sponge refills to raise funds and will host future programs by Mrs Robert Stoll and Mrs William Hamerick.

Ballroom dancing classes start March 4 at First Street School

Seventh and eighth graders may join a 10 week program in ballroom dancing and social behaviour. Harley Kerr of Akron will lead sessions in the school cafeteria starting at 3:30 for one hour at 50 cents per hour. Girls enrolled earn credit toward dancing badges. A parents invited party will conclude the course.

Firefighters Respond to Fire at Mill*. Presbyterian Church

Rittman volunteer firemen were called Thursday morning to extinguish a small fire in the furnace at the Mill Presbyterian Church on South Main Street. Minor damage reported to the furnace room in the basement.

Mrs Mil dred Hilty, known as Skip, a Cranford New Jersey native, designs and illustrates for the annual Minstrel Show now in its ninth year. Since marrying after Miami University graduation she has worked in Lions Club sign making and contributed to Brethren magazine The Woman’s Outlook.
