Weather takes toll as storms injure Rittman and Sterling residents
Snow and ice battered Rittman and Sterling last week causing multiple injuries from falls and coasting. A 12 year old boy suffered head and shoulder bruises after colliding with a car near the high school. Other injuries included a fractured wrist, a fractured hip, and a severe scalp wound. A team of Buena Vista College players were snowbound in Nebraska for four days on a basketball trip. Mercury plunged to 12 below and near zero as temperatures lingered with little relief forecast.

Rotary Enjoys Victory Dinner in Lodi Visit
Nineteen members of the Rittman Rotary club traveled to Lodi Tuesday for a victory dinner with the Lodi club. They were guests after winning an attendance contest with the Medina county club in early winter. The Rittman group achieved four 100 percent meetings to secure the win. Dinner began at 6 30 p m. with light entertainment and good humor. President C C Grege spoke to greetings from Lodi. Clarence J Burgderfer provided entertainment as a mimic and humorist.

WPA Laborers Return To Work
Nearly 30 WPA workers on the College Street storm sewer project returned to work last Friday after warnings from WPA Director Turner of Wooster and Engineer Wilcox. Foreman Al Branstetter had fired a worker to speed progress, an act supported by officials. Workers were told weather might allow short warm ups in the village garage and that the fire action followed direct orders.

Waltons Back Dams Near in Wayne County
Wayne County Izaak Walton league advances three dam sites near Rittman and Sterling in Milton township. County Game Warden Mark Tyrrell and directors Ralph Overholt and C. B. Shook secured easements on properties of John Luts M. C. Hosmer and Reuben King. Fifteen easements are secured with $13,700 available for construction of dams averaging about $800 each. Dams will be under four feet high and league members will maintain them.

McConnell Home Damaged By Fire Near Rittman
A Sunday morning blaze severely damaged one room of the McConnell residence 2 1/2 miles southwest of Rittman. Neighbors contained the fire before Rittman Fire Department arrived around 10 30. A overheated coal stove pipe on the first floor singed the second floor bedroom floor. The house had been vacated by Ernest McConnell and family.

Bond Issue Wins Council Approval With WPA Grant Aid
