Lent Devotions Announced at St Anns and Sts Peter and Paula

Lent devotionals begin as Ash Wednesday marks the Lenten season. The Rev J T Farrell leads weekly Wednesday talks on Our Lord's passion and Friday Way of the Cross meditations at 730 p m until Easter. Daily 730 a m services and Sunday masses at 8 and 1000 a m continue. Sts Peter and Paul follow a similar schedule.

Personal Taxes Being Filed Now

County Auditor Dan Yoder reports blanks for personal property tax returns are available at Rittman Savings Bank Sterling Bank Marshallville post office and Orrville banks. Deadline is March 31. Tax on income from productive investments drops from 6 to 5 percent and real estate tax books will be ready next week for first half 1935 payments.

Aunt Cindy Cast Delights at High School Play

The American Legion Auxiliary staged a three act comedy at the high school auditorium using a large cast led by Della Wenner as Aunt Cindy and Walter Keating as Biff Budkins. The show featured mishaps with soap, a washing machine venture, and lively supporting turns from Stephen Dunstad Mara Stem and others while Esther Overholt thanked helpers and the school orchestra provided the score.

Betty Wenger Improves After Mumps Illness

Betty Wenger 12 daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert Wenger of South Main Street was reported improved Thursday morning after an attack of mumps weakened her. She had been under strain to maintain her perfect A scholastic record and received special medical care. Taken to Cuyahoga Falls Sanatorium Tuesday afternoon she was returned home for observation and showed signs of improvement.

Rittman Indians beat Wadsworth Grizzlies 41 to 29 in a hard fought Saturday night game marked by a melee as players were sent off and referees cleared the floor. Yarman led Rittman with 22 points, while Wright contributed six baskets for Wadsworth.

Ice blast frees jammed bridge over Ble Chippewa river

Heavy ice wedged behind the Sterling bridge in the Ble Chippewa area was blasted away after dark Wednesday. Residents feared a bridge collapse under flood pressure as Jim Early and others used dynamite to break the ice and relieve the pressure, finally freeing the pilings after a dozen charges.
