A notice from Mrs. Chase Focht of Ravenna states the death of her father F. L. Swartz in Lewistown Pennsylvania on January 17 he was 72 years old and formerly lived in Rittman where he worked at the lumber yard for Walter Shook He leaves a widow and three children.
Rittman Savings Bank installed a Burrough posting machine last Tuesday at a cost of $1550. The device is the latest model and will handle all the bank's commercial accounts.
Red roses carnations and red hearts festooned the scene for a Thursday evening swim class party. Mr and Mrs Harold Brakewood attended and took home prizes. Lunch followed in colors matching the decorations.
Jacob Meyer venerable farmer of south Sterling died Sunday morning after a period of ill health. He was 83 years old and a lifelong churchgoer who raised a large family with two marriages. Surviving are his widow and twelve children including Emmet Yoder Sterling and Noah W Schrock Orrville. Funeral services were held at the family home and Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
The Presbyterian Sunday school class led by Dr C Gregg held a combined business and social evening in the church Sunday with Herbert Wolfe elected president, Mrs Harold Mains vice president, and Mrs Coffman treasurer. Wolfe and Stem entertained, refreshments included patriotic décor and a menu of sandwiches salad ice cream cake and coffee.
Mrs. Clayton Dohner returns to Rittman after weeks in Florida. She went south to aid her ill son Junior but found the climate not helping and decided to come back. She reports Florida business conditions are poor and many homes lie vacant.
A gala Saturday night dance and entertainment on the Dohner building premises drew a lively crowd. Promoters Ira Tinsler of Wadsworth and Chas Hummell of Easton featured old time dances and exhibitions by negro clubs, delighting attendees.
Oliver Cummings of Bowling Green Ohio visited Alice and Iris Hiers on North Second Street last weekend. A two table bridge party was held at the Hiers home in his honor with high scores to Virginia Thomas and Elizabeth Hershey.

Miss Lucille Quimby, a Sterling age cashier from Rittman, operated on for appendicitis in Indiana, remains ill ten weeks later and was taken to Wooster City hospital Tuesday night for further treatment. She has a persistent fever and sits up briefly each day. Beecher Lee of The Rittman Savings Bank and his wife with an aunt leave Rittman at eight this morning for a vacation trip to Florida. duration unknown.
Paul Smith of Florida, long ill with typhoid fever for five weeks, shows a slight improvement in condition according to medical reports.
Charles Wanna claims responsibility for kidnapping Melvin Horst of Orrville on December 27 1925 in a signed statement. He says Junior Wanna helped abduct Horst and that a 2x4 was used to strike him and the body placed in a car rumble seat. He implicates two Akron bootleggers Tony Nosko and Chith Tressko and notes a payment of 25 gallons of whiskey for the delivery.
In commemoration of Lincoln's birthday and St Valentine day the Rotary Club held a Thursday evening program inviting the Ladies of Rotary and guests. Attorney Don Jacobs of Canton delivered the address and a chicken dinner followed. Tables were decorated with event colors and sweet peas from Ash Brook Green House.
The council, led by Mayor Hanes and Clerk Ziegler, discussed minutes, a pay ordinance, and needs for a new disposal pump. Officials reviewed purchasing a new truck for the attack department, leasing the building, and possible State Fire Marshal inspection. Insurance renewals were authorized for the sheet truck and police car.
A brief marriage notice reports Means McCoy wed R BooMr oy in Wooster with a large crowd outside the Grant Street home. The groom has long residence at Billman Fox and serves as junior at Uttman High School.\n
John H Kilne known as Jack Kline died at home on Sterlingrd Tuesday at 11 30 pm after a yearlong illness. Dropsy listed as immediate cause. A. L. Ebert led funeral preparations with services at the Art church at 2 pm Thursday conducted by Rev. Ortt. He longtime served as watchman at the Erle railroad crossing in Ihtman before illness ended his duties.
The K P S and Pythian Sisters held a county meeting in Orrville Tuesday evening. Six Knights and eleven Sisters traveled from here. Dan Funk of Wooster delivered the welcome and Mr Beeman of Cleveland gave the main talk. About 200 attended. Orrville ladies served lunch.
