Roy Moffett of the Ohio Central Telephone Corporation announced a 214 014 year program for Rittman and Sterling. The plan adds 200 lines at Rittman and 40 lines at Sterling with outside cable and dial system expansion as part of a statewide upgrade exceeding 12 million in capital improvements in 1966. The company aims to keep service interruptions minimal during a 27 month rollout while shifting unpaid accounts to 30 day disconnections and continuing to improve modern, reliable telephone service for the community.
An all day FBI sponsored school for area law enforcement will take place at Rittman city hall on 30 North Main Wednesday February 23. Lectures and films will cover interrogation due process arrest procedures burglary investigation and report writing. The program runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Services for Mrs. Doris F. Woyat 66 of Sterling Avenue Rittman were held Friday at Gillman Funeral Home. She died Tuesday evening at Wadsworth Rittman Hospital after hospital admission Saturday. Born September 18 1899 in Licking County near Johnstown to Eugene Kendall and Fannie Kendall she was a member of Rittman Daughters of America. Surviving husband Edward J a son Ronald and one grandchild. a brother Harry Kendall had died previously. Burial followed in Rittman Cemetery with Rev. Joseph Ramsier officiating.
Architects Janusey and Schaad of Pittsburgh presented plans for a two story high school with a domed gymnasium seating 1500, an auditorium for 450, adjoining music and science facilities, 12 second floor classrooms, and labs. The 81,000 square foot complex would cost about 900,000 to 11 to 12 per square foot, with a bond issue of 1,185,000 planned for May to fund construction and site work.
30-Year resident Mrs May Bette Kaufman 74 of 55 Fairlawn died Friday at Wayne County Hospital after a three week stay. She lived in Rittman over 5 years. Survived by husband Jacob a son Arthur Medina two sisters Iona Brough Rittman Leota Haney Indiana and one grandchild. Burial at Pioneer Memorial Cemetery conducted by Rev Albert Henry.
Golden Ferguson 60 of 70 North State died unexpectedly Monday. He came to Rittman 34 years ago and worked 21 years at Packaging Corporation of America. He was a United Baptist Church member. Surviving: wife Albina, son Roy of Rittman, parents Freelin and wife, siblings Reubin Basil Garden Del Ray Beach Clyde, sisters Dorothy Pratt Betty Stewart Myrtle Fisher Lola Mason, two grandchildren. Burial at Rittman Cemetery.
PTA executive committee announces the 12th annual minstrel show will be held March 31 and April 12. If Rittman High School basketball continues in tournament play the week of March 12, the show dates will move from the original March 17 18 19 window.
The U S Conciliation Service moved into the Packaging Corporation of America work stoppage in Akron where 900 employees are idle. Negotiations follow separate rooms with a mediator, as leaders from both sides weigh a quick end or a prolonged stalemate amid hopeful signs.
Rittman Savings Bank will close Tuesday February 22 to commemorate George Washington's birthday. Executive vice president Allan J Broadhurst announced the closure.
Milton Township trustees announced a mutual fire protection agreement with Smithville. Residents will report calls to Rittman 144 or Sterling 222, with ten private lines routing to ten Sterling phones. Smithville will not handle Milton Township calls unless directed by Milton Township or Rittman chiefs.
At a Tuesday evening meeting the Rittman Community Fund acted on nine emergency relief cases with six members present. Chairman Raymond Mullett presided over the session.
Wayne County Joint Vocational School board moves to place a bond issue for a new area vocational school on the November ballot. It seeks a director, full time clerk, and an architect with about 12 to 13 thousand dollars yearly. Ed Sherck chairs the architect screening as twenty one firms express interest.
The Rittman Women's Republican Club sponsors two coffee hours to meet Congressman John Ashbrook. Transportation is available by calling 925-4656. Hostesses Mrs George Hileman and Mrs Marvin Adams welcome guests at 1 p.m. and 2 30 p.m. respectively.
Hershey and Rohrer announce license plates go on sale March 1. Car owners must bring title and make advance payment at 173 South Main to reserve a Sock name number before March 1.
