Liquor Permit Applications Filed in Rittman Area

William P. Mats, dba Rittman Beverage and Sport Store at 144 South Main, seeks a high powered beer and wine for carry-out license. West Speaks to School Boards at Ohio University

Robert West who resigned from the Rittman board of education after 16 years spoke on the Ohio University campus in Athens. His topic was the Importance of Team Work and he addressed about 200 superintendents and school board members from southeastern Ohio. The one day regional meeting ended with group discussions.

Father Farr Laid To Rest

Services for Father Dennis M Farr former pastor at St Ann Church were held in Cleveland on Monday at St Paul Shrine Concelebrated mass marked the funeral He died Thursday at a Cleveland hospital after lung surgery aged 61 His years of service included St Martha Akron St Paul Shrine and parish work in Cleveland He helped expand and remodel the Rittman church rectory and interior Bishop G Claverree Gissenmann presided as principal celebrant.

Bloodmobile volunteer class set for Wooster Feb 27

An aid class for women to help with Bloodmobile will run February 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Wooster Red Cross office. Attendees will join the eligible list for February 28 at the American Legion Hall, with St Ann parish women serving lunch and donors posted at the hall. Contact Miss Black by phone to sign up.

Students Qualify For Annual Wayne County Spell Contest

Four eighth graders Martha Dysinger Bonnie Vaness Debbie Smith and Joan Ditch achieved 100 percent in the first elimination written spelling contest preliminary to the Wayne County spelling bee. Second elimination is set for Monday during school hours. Pyle resigns as Rittman football coach after 12 years

Rittman High School board accepts Homer Pyle resignation from coaching duties in football wrestling and golf while retaining his English II teaching post. Pyle cites lack of formal board action and describes a 12 year tenure with 61 wins 44 losses and seven ties including two Wayne County League titles.

Rittman Police Win Full Raises After Budget Showdown

Police Sgt Larry Hudson warned the council they would not negotiate below the 6900 dollars for patrolmen after two years service. Ed Brophy’s proposal passed unanimously granting pay hikes, with chiefs and sergeants rising to 7700 and 7500 respectively. Council also approved 5600 dollars state share for Route 57 resurfacing with state cover at 60 percent.

Rittman Board Moves to Reappraise High School Site

The Rittman Board of Education moved to secure an immediate second appraisal of parcels for a new high school site. Attorney C E Rhonemus urged the reappraisal to reflect current values. Superintendent W H Hauenstein said the approach would avoid a fake picture of present land values while architects work on preliminary sketches and target working drawings within a year.

PCA Names Olin Ras Dabney as New Personnel Manager

Packaging Corporation of America announces Olin Ras Dabney as operations personnel manager succeeding Charles Cheeler who moves to container sales. Dabney and his wife Kay plan to reside in the Rittman area after living in Winston-Salem. He is a six year veteran of personnel administration and is a University of South Carolina MBA and law graduate.

Bids On Wayne County JVS To Be Opened Thursday

Wayne Counts Joint Vocational School bids will be opened at noon Thursday at the JVS school warehouse in Smithville. Board members Director Robert Zimpfer and Architect John Kline will attend. The bid goes to the lowest bidder, with a possible recheck within a week. The school aims for about 23 million dollars. elevation may drop two feet to cut costs. Superintendent John Lea was reappointed. The board also authorized selling a third of an acre to the Village of Smithville for 300 dollars amid health land controls.

Madrigal Singers Set Feb 26 Program at Fine Arts Event

Kent State University Madrigal Singers will present a varied program of folk tunes and madrigals on Monday February 26 at a Fine Arts Foundation sponsored event. Director Robert Huil Foulkes released the program featuring Morley and Pilkington madrigals and a recorder consort portion, with Warner arrangements of Finney tunes and spherical madrigals.
