Pat and Paul Mills of Route 70 near Doylestown report seeing a Wilson's snipe at their pond, an occasional meadowlark on wires, and woodcocks nearby, all evidence of early spring activity. The article notes the snipe's long bill, orange tail in flight, and wintering south.
Bloodmobile crews organize a February 28 schedule at the American Legion Hall starting at 6 p.m. Co chairs Patricia Black and Sharon Jones state eight donors will be booked every 15 minutes with walk-ins accepted. A six hour donor eligibility class is planned February 27 at Wooster Red Cross.
A bake sale will be held Friday from 9 to 12 at Rittman Savings Bank hosted by Rittman Community Church women.
Lawrence Wesley Goodman of Rittman became a Florida hero after spotting two youths near Lauderdale Street in Fort Lauderdale. Three 18 year olds were later arrested on possession charges for LSD and marijuana found inside aluminum wrapped packages. Goodman is wintering in Florida and works for D James Beres of Rittman.
Funeral services for Mrs Tillian Reo 84 a longtime Rittman resident who died Friday at Won ster Community Hospital were held Monday at Apostolie Christian Church. She was born in Monroe County and had been a 67 year member of her church Surviving are sons Floward lt Avard and Steve of Rumienr Robert of Sterling daughters Ruth Marie Winzeler New Slaven and a sister Mrs Emma Maibach Doylestown. 16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren Burial followed at the church cemetery.
Mrs Lea E Pape 79 of 203 Sterling Avenue died Saturday morning after a long illness at Wadsworth Rittman Hospital. Born in Switzerland she lived in Rittman tenacs. Survived by two sons Albert Akron Joseph Wadsworth. daughters Alice Ulrich Marguerite Schla ver Louise Boling. a brother Albert Switzerland. seven grandchildren and five greats. Husband Joseph died in 1957. Buried in Rittman Cemetery with Father John Zeman OSB and Father Thomas McMahon officiating.
Rittman Post Office will be closed Thursday February 22 in observance of Washington’s Birthday according to an announcement by Assistant Postmaster Robert West.

The Rittman board of education revised entry rules to align with new state requirements. A child must be five years old before September 30 to enter first grade under the updated policy for the coming school year.
Planning officials from Rittman and nearby companies announced that Route 57 safety and design upgrades will push the project schedule. The new route from Route 37 to Route 31 near Orrville spans about four miles with city annexations and shared costs for the section within Rittman.
Lions Club outlines events over the last two weeks of February with a Blue and Gold banquet at Milton United Presbyterian Church. Mr Elmer Smith will be the Lions institutional representative. A zone social is set at Marshallville Elementary School on Saturday. The group attends Wooster Lions Club 40th anniversary at Smithville Inn on Feb 29. Meetings are 6:30 PM at Williams Restaurant on March 4 11 and 18 with Richard Baker C G Haulk Charles Wald and Robert Bodager leading.
The Jaycees announce new recreation programs at the Junior Achievement building in Rittman. They seek a knitting instructor and plan ceramics and knitting classes starting Feb 26. Senior Citizens meet to discuss classes and a woodworking group begins, with bird feeder projects led by Dean Litman.
Police note a rash of obscene telephone calls to women across Ags and urge immediate reporting to Rittman police. They advise keeping the caller on the line while others notify police and the telephone company. State law prohibits obscene language or repeated harassing calls with penalties up to 500 dollars or six months imprisonment.
Pac Mor Campers will meet Sunday February 25 at 2 pm at the Rittman Junior Achievement building. Ernest Foltz of Wooster will present slides of the Black Hills, Yellowstone, and other areas. All area campers are invited to attend.
The notice states Earl Lambert of Wayne Street, recently returned from Wayne, WW, attended the funeral of Jay Lambert, brother of Mr Lambert, in Vian.
PFC Paul John Bachman 20, brother of Mrs Betty Copenha ver, died of enemy gunshot wounds near Saigon while with the 101st Army Airborne at Song Be. He entered service last May and left for overseas duty in November. Survived by brother James O'Brien and sister Helen Joe, with grandparents Mr and Mrs Adam SGaft of Wadsworth and Mrs Anna Bachman of Akron.
The Jaycees host a covered dish dinner Thursday at 7 pm at the Junior Achievement building. Ralph Overholt presents slides Fishing Fever in Ohio and Recreation in Ohio with sound. Clayton Miller of Doylestown, District 8 VP, gives a Jaycees history. A $25 bond rewards the guest-getter.
Bids opened for the Wayne County Joint Vocational School show Freeman Construction Company of Wooster as the low bidder at 2.162 million dollars for general construction. The total low bids for all work run 3.148 million, with the project funded by a 19 billion bond issue approved in 1966 and 16 million in federal funds. The school will serve all Wayne County districts and start construction this spring.
Dora Dury Blosser, brother of Lawrence Blosser of Front Street, died at 79. Services were held Monday at The Bherman Church of Christ. He lived at B864 Tiarpen. He leaves a wife Tore, five sisters and two brothers.
