Local items list birthdays anniversaries for Mamie WLOMe Lisa Reid Bunny McQuate and others across Thursday to Monday plus a St Valentine birthday for Clotine Craig. A tale recounts an aging 1968 Buick's rough week and a window accident caused by two boys playing basketball.
Rittman residents may opt out of sexually oriented advertisements by listing their name with the Postal Service. The service compiles a reference of names including minors under 19 living with or under care, with a steep fee for mailers and prohibitions on selling the list. Violations after 30 days carry civil and criminal penalties up to five years. The law, requested by President Nixon, follows the Postal Reorganization Act of 1970. Trials and arts events follow in Medina County with the Fire Inspector drama at Jerusalem Lutheran Church and a Festival of the Arts running April 18–25 1971.
Rittman High School announces honor roll and improved averages for the first semester and third six weeks. The lists name seniors, juniors, sophomores and freshmen with all A’s and with at least two A’s in full credit subjects, plus those with all A’s and B’s. Named students include seniors Paula Williams Sue Hensley Debbie Jackson Jean Clarke and others, with multiple class rank groups and new first semester honorees.
Barberton PPG Industries plant employed nearly 2,200 in 1970 with payroll of 194 million and local supplier purchases topping 136 million. Despite a strike from Oct 20 to late January, total area contributions reached 42.6 million, though payroll and earnings declined from 1969.
The United Telephone Company of Ohio will shut its Rittman office on February 26 1971. Billing records move to 207 North Vine Orrville, with Ruth Ingold and Karen Massie transferring to handle Rittman accounts. A local collection agency may be established, and a return envelope will accompany monthly bills for in person payments. After Feb 26 contact Orrville office at 925-1085.
There will be a birthday card shower for Edward Bachman of Box 7 Hannibal Ohio 43931 on his 86th birthday Thursday February 11. Bachman will enjoy cards from relatives and friends. He has been a hospital patient according to his daughter Dorothy Tisher.
Rittman city council heard six bids for a Chipmore Brush Chipper, from $1,250 to $3,454, with KPS Manufacturing of Bay City Michigan recommended. The action included bids from Road Machinery and Supply Cleveland Ohio and others, plus notes on training, discounts, and a planned park and public safety expenditures. The council also discussed deposits, parking rules, fire truck financing, and city telephone service concerns as part of a lengthy meeting.
The Wadsworth Rittman Area Hospital Association starts its annual membership drive. The nonprofit, built two years ago in a hospital district, runs the facility with 100 beds and advanced equipment. Trustees, pink ladies, and candy stripe volunteers serve. contributions via a coupon are welcome.
Sterling Knights of Pythias Lodge 173 held a euchre party for the Pythian Fibrosis fund of Kenmore Lodge. Dick Diehl received a check as the fund balance showed $2000. Kenmore Lodge built 45 tables presented to Parents of children with Cystic Fibrosis. Last year Sterling gave $15 to the fund. The first Quality Week in the history will be sponsored by the American Society for Quality Control during the week of March 1 with the endorsement of the Chamber of Commerce. The Rittman organizer for Quality week is Al Imhoff of the Morton Salt Company. Imhoff stated that the Akron Canton branch of the society is made up of all types of people concerned with quality control.
